i was under the impression that only 1 rebate was accepted per submission for this deal, and judging by how many people got in on this, and how much they stand to lose, i'd say they might look into it

Where did it say this? Also, that wouldn't make much sense, because they offered free upgrades or MIRs, so that's three MIRs right there.

Hey guys, got my system today. It seems to me that I got free shipping. Kathy at the billing forum said they billed my fedex account for shipping. However, my package shipped UPS. I wonder if I should dispute my claim with Dell... Don't want to rip them off.

I've noticed one major thing about the system, its slow. People are saying that the HD is the bottle neck. Does anyone know the stats on the 30gb 7200 Maxtor Drive? Heck its way faster than my Dell 266 P2.

NeXus4400,

I find it a little slow too. I heard it was a 5400 RPM WD drive. I am finishing installing software and then will Ghost to my 60GB 7200 RPM Maxtor and see if there is a noticable difference. I will report back.

Whatever the speed, you can't beat the price!

Well when I ordered my system, I opted for the 7200RPM upgrade. At best buy, a maxtor 30gb 7200RPM drive posts a seek time of >10ms. The 5400RPM drive posts a seek time of 12ms. I'm wondering if these are the same drives.

Got mine on Monday.
Switched out the dell HD and installed two of my own.
Also added an HP DVD200i.
All seamed to go well and the unit is plenty quick.
The only complaint I have is that the case is really hard to get use to.
My main box is in a 12 bay full tower case and this case is designed with original assembly in mind.
To be quite frank, the Dell case sucks, but at this price who cares.

My order actually went out ground!!!!! I have had email conversations with my sales rep though and she assured me that it would. Now to check out how much was charged on my Amex.

I received my 8250 last week. Like many other people, mine was shipped FedEx 2-Day even though I asked for ground (although the FedEx label does not show my account number, it shows what I assume is Dell's account number). My Amex hasn't been billed for the shipping yet.

I formatted the HD and reinstalled XP. I haven't installed any games yet so I haven't really pushed to see how fast it seems compared to my old Duron 700. Once I move a variety of parts from my old PC to this one (burner, SBLive!, speakers, nicer monitor, wireless mouse, one of my hard drives, etc.) I'll have a pretty nice system.

I love how quiet it is, except for the CDROM drive. It's quieter than my old one, but it's still kind of loud. I guess high speed CDROM drives must just make noise.

If all the rebates come through this will be the ultimate "BRAG" deal.
"How much did you pay for your new computer?"
"Oh, I don't know... 90 bucks?"
"90... whaaaaa? :Q"

I got my 8250 the day after Thanksgiving and I sent all 5 rebates in that Saturday. 4 of the 5 rebates are showing as submitted on rebatestatus.com right now ($140, $170, $200 and one of the $100 rebates: 036666, 036671, 036668 and 036179). The 36445 (the holiday rebate) hasn't shown up yet. If it doesn't show up in the next week, I'll resubmit it.

It is a quiet PC when I first got it. With my homegrown Athlon (with 5 fans) running on the side, you can't even tell the Dell's running. After I changed the video card and moved my Athlon downstairs, I suddenly noticed a weird humming sound coming out of the pc. It's still very quiet but the humming sound's driving me crazy! Opened the case, checked all the connections, unplugged few cards, juggled the cables and hit the case quite a few times, all to no avail. I think it has something to do with the case, partly due to the fact that if I leave the case open, the humming sound goes away. Maybe I should just leave it open.. anyone else noticed similar problem?

On another note, the 250Watts power supply is quite weak, so I will try to swap it out soon. Wondering why they still are using such lame power supplies.. (other than to save a coupld of bucks)

With Radeon 8500 (128MB ver), easily scored over 10k on 3DMarks.. time to try overclocking this baby..

Well, I don't usually like OEM systems, but I have to say I really like this dell design. From the color and the easy accessibility to the USB 2.0 ports up front and the large fan with the hood for the CPU (am wondering how well it cools though). Only wish the PS used the standard ATX form instead of what it is. Would have liked to switch out the OEM PS for my Antec true power. Anyway, I stuck in a better hard drive and video card and yanked the modem and I'm running fine.

I second this. Short of the Mac G3 case, these are the most functional cases around. The aluminum cases may be the darling now but for my money, these are better.

Anyone here tried using a 10K RPM SCSI drive in this unit? Does it get too hot?

I want to install my SCSI system but am worried about overheating the drives. Is there any way to mount front intake fans into this case?

Looking at the inside of my 8250, I'd think it would be pretty hard to fit a fan in there due to the way the hard drives are mounted. If you put it in the 5.25 bay however, you shouldn't have a problem of putting in the hard drive. You might have to make some vent holes, though since my case only has two puny slits in the bottom front of the case for air intake.

BTW Ilop is that your real current system?
I used to run a similar machine, 17 years ago!!

yay! This rebate status showed up this morning: "036445 Dimension/Inspiron $100 Rebate Dell Computer Corporation". So now all 5 are submitted and received.

:p to the person who said rebatestatus is slow to put up the info. 2 weeks is as fast as anyone else.

edit for alluu:
That status for each of the 5 shows: "Status: We have received your submission and it is being processed." The dollar amounts on the detail screen are all correct though.

Are your rebates approved or just shown as arrived?

**For FedEx people only**

check your credit cards for charges from FedEx - mine was posted on my account today. I request ground, but got 2nd day instead. Now I have to see what Dell will do about it.

For those who got this system, have you noticed that the ethernet connection seems to still on even though the computer is completely off. At least the Ethernet LED is still on. Any hints ????
