For those of you that have been getting their systems via 2nd day shipping and had asked for FedEx ground, you need to call and file a complaint!

I am serious when I tell you that they are looking into this matter and I am sure if they have enough pressure, they might actually do something about it. I finally got a hold of my CSR and he told me that I DID sign up for FedEX ground but the 9-digit account number turned it into 2day Air? I called FedEX and asked them how this could possibly happen. They stated that when Dell calls them with a pickup based on an account number, it is Dell who tells them what type of shipping they want. It appears that Dell either didn't do this or someone dropped the ball and just let FedEx determine how to ship. If we order something from someone and tell them what to charge it to and how to ship it, it is up to that individual to do so. It is not our fault that they didn't follow through on the order!

Call and file a complaint! Its our only chance.

Just checked my order status. it's "in production - boxing".
Ship date is tomorrow, delivery date is Dec 9 - Dec 11, THEY think it"s going ground!
It better not show up Thurs or Fri!
I called in a 7 digit FedEx number, I hope it works.

Nope they aren't going to split your charges up on your CC, if you only have a 500 limit on your CC then it's been rejected by your bankcard merchant.

Can you post up the model numbers here for the PC1066 RDRAM? Dell uses proprietary parts, so it's no surprise that the motherboard doesn't look like a standard size. From a business standpoint, this probably helps them draw customers back to them to buy more computers by limiting your upgradability.

I'm not exactly sure which is the model number but I will tell you everthing thats on it

on the sticker on the heat spreader

KOREA 0246 256MB/8
MR16R1628DF0-CT9 1066-32P 102

on a corner of the pcb

My system was built and boxed but not shipped. I had changed my fedex 9-digit number to a groundable 7-digit number before going into production. An e-mail from my CSR informs me that my 7-digit ground number is invalid. For all I know, its in her office awaiting shipment. Just called Fedex; CSR tells me that the new accounts department won't be open until the morning for me to request my actual ground number.

NOBODY IS GOING TO GET FEDEX GROUND!!!!!!!!!! I just had a long educational conversation with a professor-like CSR at FedEx. He explained to me in many words that Fedex doesn't allow a third-party to bill you for Ground service. It does though for Air shipments. He said a way out is to issue a call tag. This means that you call Fedex with exact pick-up location address and your account number - they will then inform their ground service to send a driver there with a preprinted shipping label. Of course, you need to know the day shipment is ready to be picked up... Give up on this guys...

Is this true? Do I need to call in advance for a call tag? Anyways, at this point, it is either ground or staying at dell. I only live 100 miles away, heck I could drive there and pick it up.

Thanks Anandtech for this deal.

Happened to me too. It was because the FedEx sign-up charge showed up as "outside of the US" and so my CC locked into "fraud" mode and didn't let the Dell charge through.

I called my sales rep, his boss, and 2 CSR's, one of the CSR's was really nice and did everything she could to try to help me (she was the only one I didn't yell at) but I'm still out of luck. No rebates, no computer. :(

I didn't desperately need one anyway, and at least now I don't have to worry about $710 being tied up in rebates.

At least that's what I'm telling myself...

If you manage to have success getting your rebates or something equal please PM me with the CSR you spoke to and what they did. But as of right now I'm giving up on this deal.

This shipping situation is crazy. When I ordered, I specifiied Fedex ground with my 9 digit shipping number. The confimation email truncated it to just "Fedex"which confirmed i had requested my own carrier and was being billed third party. Yet today, my order shows up as in transit via UPS?!?! Very odd. I do not see how dell could charge me for UPS as the confirmation says fedex. Im hoping Im going to get lucky with this one. $70 computer shipped free would be the deal of the year, hands down.

My order was cancelled too because of the fraud issue and I was getting ready to chew out someone but I emailed my sales rep and she reinstated the order. She also noted in their system somehow that my order is still valid for the rebates even though it is after the date and I have it in a written email from her. So no worries for me.

Sorry Dude! You got a DELL!

The chipset supports RAM timing adjustments even if the BIOS doesn't. I used WCPREDIT and WCPRSET to change my memory timings to 1.5-2-2 and refresh rate on the 4550 I have. There is an 845D config file (*.PCR) that you can use to change the registers on the 845PE with WPCREDIT and WPCRSET restores the settings when you reboot. There's probably an 850/850E PCR file to do the same for the 8250.

If you wanted to get fancy, it's possible to order a 4550 with the 1.8GHz CPU (many/some are coming with C1 stepping) and just pin trick/isolate a pin in the socket to select 533MHz FSB (2.4GHz), and if necessary, you can also pin trick the socket to give more voltage. I looked up the model of the clock generator PLL in the 4550 and it supports 3 FSB speeds (QDR): 100MHz, 133MHz and 200MHz. If you already have a 133MHz (533MHz) FSB CPU, there's nothing useful there. But if you have a slower 100MHz FSB CPU (1.8A or 2.0A C1), you can probably find a compatible PLL in CPUFSB or other utility to overclock to 533MHz FSB inside Windows (1.8A -> 2.4GHz or 2.0A C1 -> 2.66GHz). Voltage adjustment via a pin trick might be necessary though.

I even got my 9700 TX overclocked now (required flash to 9700 retail ver 8004 BIOS). Nothing spectacular, but it's 15MHz faster than a regular 9700 and I can use updated drivers now. The Ti4200 in my 4550 overclocked to 300/600 without any problems at all, too.

Overclocking and tweaking isn't impossible, it's just not as easy or flexible as an enthusiast board. But, yeah, there's little you can do for a 533MHz FSB CPU on these systems. So that's a hint to plan wisely in the future if you do want to overclock the CPU.

I sent in a 5 of my rebates on Saturday (got the 8250 on Friday), so I should see if they were accepted soon.

The board only has 4 pci slots :((this can lead to some problems)
4rimm slots

I wish they did not spend so much money/mobo space on 8 usb ports when they could have put a better integrated audio sound system in.
The 9700tx card is on a red pcb (which I believe it means it was made by ati and not a 3rd part vendor)

mobo space on 8 usb ports when they could have put a better integrated audio sound system in.
Is there a difference in the motherboard if we optted for the premium sound instead of the integrated sound? So if you got the integrated sound, could you still upgrade your soundcard?
Thanks

Why complain?
It's your fault for not understanding how a CC works.
Right?

No0b,

Thanks for the part#. Saved me some time and effort. Just have to sit tight until my Dell arrives.
