In for a copy of MS Money.

OK, really for Vista Ultimate...why would they even offer Money? To clear the warehouse?

Odd, I used my gmail at first and never got an email from them.

I used my hotmail and got it within seconds.

Is MS not allowing Gmail accounts to register?

I figured using hotmail (or in my case, an old @msn account) would work quickly, and sure enough, it arrived in seconds.

Thanks OP, singed up for Office.

what can they possibly do though? they would have said specifically looking for pirated copies of windows...they can get sued if they arent telling exactly what the program does, meaning if it additionally checks for a pirate copy.

Is there any kind of confirmation page you can go to to confirm you are enrolled and confirm what gift you chose?

I used my hotmail account and it worked in minutes

I suppose one could go and install it on an old computer that will take xp home or the like, and just install folding@home or something on it, and just let it chug away for 3 months...Then reimage it once you're finished and have your software.

For the Vista Ultimate...I'm thinking that this is for a retail version? If so, less hassles about activations being limited to one hardware config might be a lot less.

Thanks, in for one. Kind of reminds me of my retail days when Microsoft had retail training. You could earn points and get free or very cheap deals on just about all their software.

I've tried several addresses over the course of today and none of them brought the registration confirmation message from Microsoft. Then I started thinking about all of the problems Microsoft was (deliberately) causing Mozilla users when it first hit the scene, specifically with the MS web site and Hotmail. So, I fired up IE and no surprise, I had the confirmation message in a flash. You can be sure the spyware you have to download as part of the agreement won't be going on my primary box.

Bullet Point #3 from WFP FAQ

Excerpt from FAQ:

We do not intentionally collect sensitive information, such as the passwords on the user accounts, the contents of any of your personal files, the name or HTTP address of any of the websites you mark as Favorites, or what websites you visit.

WFP Privacy Statement

Excerpt from Privacy Statement:

Microsoft or its vendors may access and/or disclose personal information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on Microsoft or the Program; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of Microsoft (including enforcement of our agreements), or (c) act in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of Microsoft employees, users of Microsoft products or services, or members of the public.

So in summary, if you have an illegal copy of windows, you probably don't want to apply for this. If you have content that would be targetted by the Feds (kiddie porn, terrorist propaganda/agendas, weapon-making guides, world-domination manifestos etc.), you probably don't want to apply for this. If you have a few movies or songs I probably wouldn't worry too much, but don't hold me to that! :D

I'm a bit confused on the 3 month requirement. First of all, I don't see where that is listed on Microsoft's website (I've looked through the main page, the "more about the program" page, and the FAQ. Second, assuming there is a 3 months requirement, is that three months since installation of the tool, or three months of total computer use since installation of the tool. I've heard people saying they'll leave their computer on for 3 months to complete the program, which presumably means that it is a 3 months of use total requirement, but again I don't see that on their website...

I'd imagine that it likely phones home as long as it's got internet access...But ya, that's a point I suppose.

I tried several times in both FF and IE7 with hotmail but no go. Finally tried a different address in IE7 and then it worked... maybe addresses used in FF are being blacklisted?

Or until you get your gift and uninstall the monitoring app. :)

Yes, install F@H and run it for 3 months (don't forget TeAm 198 when you install)...

Actually, I will give this a shot on one of my folding machines. All it does is fold (clean install of XP with nothing else on the HD).

Think I am going to build something out of all my random parts, that have been sitting around collecting dust.
