K-Squared,

Read this. If your drive is manufactured after 10/01/02 it is a ONE year warranty. Since these drives are brand new on the market I will assume they only have a one year warranty. I believe all WD drives still have 3 years.

I used the chat feature to get a PM last night around 7 pm on the east coast. This is a great deal, and I don't see any reason why the $20 MIR won't work since it just says "80 GB, 7200 RPM."

Good luck on the $20 rebate guys.....I hope you get it. I just want to point out that if you go to the Maxtor website, the actual printable Maxtor coupon is here. And it does list a specific model (L01J030). I will agree that Staples rebate center is negligent in not representing this...just wanted to warn you. They do go to the same address.

Not sure, I'll find out tomorrow. Hopefully its more like the diamondplus 8 I got yesterday (quiet at idle AND while reading/writing), and not like the d740x I have (quiet at idle, but noisey while seeking)

Ca ching!! scored on this deal!! 74.70 shipped!! with pm to cusa + 8.50shipping + 10% of difference = 106.05 - 30$ coupon = 74.05$ delivered!!

very nice CSR...first she said they wouldn't pricematch cusa because of rebate..however just be nice (don't beg) and she will check again and approve it. lady's name is veal? "vheel"? somethin like that. first thing to do is have a nice tone voice and wish them good morning or afternoon.....then take it from there.

now crossing fingers for this 30$ rebate

Well it's 10am in Chicago now, and the live customer support option is up.

Just go to help, in the top right, and there should be a pretty distinguishable button that says "Live Customer Support."

Deal Dead? Staples has posted a $20 rebate on the drive now, and they'll only PM the $10 difference from the CUSA offer. Just tried it online and checked for the Rebate..

Anyone else have any luck today?

I got envious of CherryBomb's raid setup so thought I'd give this an online shot. :) I was just told by Adam over chat that "they had determined earlier today" that their price with rebate was cheaper than Staples' cost with next-day shipping. Now, I haven't done this enough to know about shipping costs with PMs, but I was intrigued by his rebate comment. Sure enough, he linked me to that 80GB 7200 RPM $20 Staples.com rebate, so I guess *that's* a go at least. Maybe another CSR would be more "helpful" and hopefully the PM isn't dead.

Now, my only question is if there's ANY way to get that rebate applied to the relatively-successful *phone* order I just made last night / this morning? (PM'd to $115 (I don't know how. I'm sick and can't focus.:confused;) - $30 coupon = $92 w/tax) Or any way to adjust that order after I get it? Still a pretty good price for a brand-new 80GB 8MB cache drive though...

That rebate is from the regular 2MB version of the 80GB, not the Ultra 8MB version. You got me quite happy there when you said theres a $20 rebate 4 it ^^

OK - here is the deal. I just tried this. First I was able to PM down to $119 using the online csr online help "feature" she said that since Staples has a "generic" $20 rebate on the drive she could only PM to that($119 but came to $117 with 110% PM) She linked to the Staples rebate, so I let it go at that and still ordered it. My total was $93.xx shipped including tax. Since this "generic" rebate on Staples is actually a Manufacturors rebate i looked at Maxtor's rebate site and found it. As has been pointed out - this drive does not qualify according to Maxtors rebate (Maxtor's rebate rebate# 02-50545) If you look at theStaples rebateHQ and click the "print mail-in form" on that page you will see that infact this is the same rebate(# 02-50545).

So I called Staples and informed them of this. They "researched" it and then called back to say that infact they will allow the $99.99 pricematch to CompUSA, but cUSA charges $8.50 shipping - they will too
rolleye.gif
. Oh well i still got the drive pretty cheap. My total including tax was $79.86 shipped :)

So for you guys that are getting the run-around from the CSRs - inform them that Maxtor's Rebate # 02-50545 doesn't include this drive ;):)

Happy Hunting

Hmm, Just called into staples.. This isnt such a hot deal..

I got them to pricematch to $99.99, but, they wanted to charge me a $18.00 next day shipping charge for overnight shipping.

I told them I didnt want overnight shipping and they I dont think I should be charged shipping at all and they said thats just how it is.. I talked to Nancy about this and she wouldnt budge..

is this normal? an 18 dollar shipping charge?

I hadnt used the $30.00 off coupon yet, but still, 18 bucks to ship?
Not a hot deal imho.

I'm gonna get right back online and b1tch em out ;) Btw, isn't that just the coolest feature? No hold times, no waiting, no talking to irritating CSRs, just a lot of exclamation marks and thank you's :) Plus you can work while you wait...its great.

Call them back and try again ;):) I swear - everyone should be able to PM CompUSA. I probably got hosed on the shipping but my time is worth more than the $8 i'd save;) $18.00 however is just plain outrageous!:Q

Only WD "Limited Edition" HD's have a 3yr warranty..rest are 1 yr. I don't know about this Maxtor...since it's their top of the line it may have more...I used AMEX Gold so I'll have 2 yrs at least.....

Glad to see it's working for many....if the Chat function doesn't show, it maybe your Browser version is too old or settings for Java and or scripting are off.

Not sure why someone selected next day...my was scheduled for the next day without my input...could be I live near a warehouse. They did charge me the $8.50 CUSA shipping charge in my PM, thats why I didn't need to buy something else to get it over $100. I'm going to try the $20 rebate too...$61 for this top of the line HD is sweet.....

Yeah, My order was for next Day to.

I had to order some cheapo rubberbands to get the price to $100 so I could use
the $30 off coupon.

Josh: Your order number is ***********, and pending credit approval delivery is scheduled for 11/20/02 by UPS between the hours of 9am and 5pm.
Josh: Okay, I have these two items on the order and a total of $72.24 with tax, coupon and free shipping applied.

Your total with tax and free delivery before the coupon was $109.86. Your total now with the coupon is $77.39. How would you like to pay for this?

Thanks for the deal, I have been waiting for IBM to come out with their smaller 8mb cach drives, now I wont have to RMA another Western digital drive!

I just talked to Josh and he wouldn't do anything.
He just kept saying there was a $20 rebate and that the price is already matched.
I showed him the link and how the part numbers didn't add up, but he just swore
up and down that it would work. I tried to tell him again that this will not work
since it isn't the part number there is a rebate on.
I asked him if he would personally garuntee this rebate would work. He hedged
and just repeated the line about it being a Staples rebate and they do it differenent.
I asked him to show me this in writting and he couldn't.
He wouldn't budge so I told him I was going to buy it at CompUSA and not bother
them for my purchases again.
