i traded psu with this slightly older amd system and gave it a 250, i also tried testing a chip from another machine to see if it would work and it didnt because it was a sempron and this machine takes athlon only im guessing. when i put the original athlon chip in, the machine sounds as if it will normally boot up, i hear one beep and the hard drive and fans turn on, but that's it. the monitor light stays orange knowing it's plugged in, but doenst go to green indicating a signal is coming through. i tried giving it back the old psu but that didnt help. when i tested the chip in the mobo i did it withut the fan/hs, but i now notice the pc will power off right away if i dont hold the heatsink/fan on hard enough, so i would guess that the overheat feature would of saved it from frying the board. i figured it was the chip, i bought a new one and i get the same. im stuck, could it be the semos battery?
does anyone know what the problem could be before i buy a new mobo?
thanks to anyone willingto help
