Did anyone else start getting a lot of extra spam after ordering one of these? I'm trying to figure out of Dealtime is spamming me, or if the hackers got my e-mail address after they broke into the forums.

A little extra spam myself. I used the same gmail address for Cowboom/Dealtime as I do on here...

That's a bunch of crap, too....

Bob

I haven't noticed any additional spam. I used an email account that I use only for ordering and registering for web forums and such. I have noticed some additional spam in general over the previous few weeks BEFORE I ordered the linksys, so it just may be that the spam filters are running a little behind on catching the latest spam which seems to happen from time to time.

No extra spam noticed here.

Has anyone received their router yet? Tracking says mine will be here Friday the 11th. I was curious if anyone had already received theirs.

Scheduled Delivery Date:

stay tuned!

Mine arrived yesterday, got it today. Looks fine - box is virtually new. Except for some accumulated dust on the router enclosure and the broken seal I would never have known it was used.

DD-WRT loaded, will be a while before I can swap it in to my "real" network and give it a workout.

I'm looking forward to getting mine. Want to use one to replace the Buffalo Wireless Ethernet Converter in my living room since that thing has been getting less and less reliable, and has been basically dead the past couple weeks, plus eventually putting one in my garage as well.

Don't know what I would do with the third one though.

BACKUP = 3rd one.

I have 3 now as well.

Opened my package.. the package job was stellar, huge air bubble packaging and nothing was ratting inside.

Router 1 = Dusty but everything works. Included Router, power adapter, CD, quick manual, and Cat 5 Cable.

Router 2 = Dusty but everything works. Included Router, power adapter, CD, quick manual, and Cat 5 Cable.

I ordered one to use with Tomato. I want it to extend my network to my Directv HD-DVR for use with On Demand movies. Is there a good tutorial for using Tomato to do this? (Kinda the noobs version) I'm ok with standard networking stuff, but this may be a little difficult...

Sorry, mods, I'll post this in the networking forum. Had a brain fart....

Bob

i just installed tomato onto my WRT54G and had hell of time getting it to reset after the flash. here is link for the FAQ for the firmware http://www.polarcloud.com/tomatofaq

I suggest using this link first http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_WRT54G-TM

Then reflashing it to Tomato if that's what you want to use in the end.

Good Luck all.
.
Just a FYI - the IP address is 192.168.0.1

EDIT2- I just flashed it successfully and it works like a dream! Hello 32megs. Took me 15-20mins or so following the guide to the T.

Router arrived today.
Great job packing, will test router later today and re-flash.

Previous router's owner had a dog, with white fur. 🙁

Well, I couldn't resist - opened it up and added heatsinks to the CPU, flash chip, and RF module 😀 Put in a little ~1" fan I had from an old Pentium heatsink and replaced the wall wart power supply with a 2.25A switched power supply.

Busily configuring DD-WRT and debating cranking the clock speed up to 250MHz 🙂

😱 This sounds.... like fun. What are the benefits when running DD-WRT?

OK, I re-flashed and transitioned over to Tomato 1.27 and it's humming along nicely.

Use the GS .bin file in case anyone else is wanting to do this.

This whole process was much less painful than I thought it would be.

THANKS onza!
I'm sorry I bought only one.

Well, it appears that many of these consumer-grade routers run pretty hot under heavy loads - regardless of the firmware in use. There were numerous comments on the DD-WRT site about heatsinking to improve this - at least one person reported range and speed decreases when his router got hot. I also saw a couple of analyses showing that peak power consumption should be able to exceed the 1A supply that Linksys ships. Since my fan label showed 210mA peak draw, I figured I'd better not rely on the already-overloaded 1A stock power supply! I'm still a little hesitant on overclocking, just because it's an NVRAM parameter so you can't really test it without being "stuck" with it in case of a bad lockup.

Of course any warranty you had is shot after you glue heatsinks to everything in sight 😀

My interest was also piqued by your post. I am eager to hear about whatever performance changes you notice. I have recently been wondering about overclocking/cooling my DD-WRT flashed routers. I suppose I need to spend some time on the DD-WRT forums.

I'll happily post once I get it integrated, but I have no "before" numbers since I heatsinked it the day after I got it.
