Thanks OP, finally got in on one of these. Hope it's not in too bad of shape being used. I was charged tax being an NM resident.

Has anyone had experience with this site? The reseller ratings look rather questionable.

Thanks OP! I was just looking for a DD-WRT platform with at least 8MB Flash and 32MB RAM, so this is perfect. I'll risk $20 on sketchy ratings - used a 1 time CC # and spare e-mail addy :)

Thanks, OP. Been wanting to check out what all the rage was about on third party wireless router firmwares.

What's a bit disturbing, though, is that when I went to check out it said that my email address was in use at their "affiliate" site Dealtree.com so I can either import the account info or use a different email address. I don't recall ever having anything to do with Dealtree, and it indeed had my name and full address stored. After putting in a credit card, it said that the information was saved, without an opt-out for not saving my CC info. Scary!

Wow, doubly glad I used the one-time CC limited to $20!

That is scary... I just used Paypal.

If I already have a WRT54-GL that's working fine with Tomato firmware, does owning this router get me anything extra if I'm not on T-Mobil?

You just flash the sucker to DDWRT or tomato and bridge it. Tmobile router is meh imo. the 32megs on this is what's awesome in this device..

"the 32megs on this is what's awesome in this device.."

That was kind of my question. What can I do with that extra RAM that I can't already do with my Tomato 'firmwared' WRT54-GL?

What's that extra capability get me that I do not already have?

The biggest feature of the extra ram is the fact that it will allow many more connections without running out of memory/crashing. If you don't have large numbers of connections (i.e. torrents, lots of users, etc), the ram isn't nearly as much of a necessity.

The 8MB of flash helps if you desire to have a Mega-build of DD-WRT (or the likes).

There are other things you can do with the extra flash/ram too but the above are the main ones that I've seen/read about. If you're good at Linux and can port other apps into this, you can install everything from VPN's, proxy servers, etc. inside the router with the extra ram.

Is it ram or rom? I think tomato and ddwrt fit fully into 8MB of rom (maybe even 4?). If it's ram, then you can have more simultaneous connections (bittorrent!) without the router dieing.

You could probably even do a simple email server or text editor.

I already have 2 ddwrt routers (one wrt054g and other other a buffalo router) lying around doing nothing. Otherwise I'd get this.

OK, if it might help 'torrents, then I'll pay the $18.48; tax in California too.

Thanks for the straight answers Engineer and Fox5.

Considering how much else I spend on hardware, that's not too bad for an experiment or to have as a backup.

Tax for NY too apparently.

I have 4 routers now. 3(dd-wrt) in use and 1 laying around. It's a great deal, but I think I'll let you guys get the one I won't be getting.

I ordered one to use with Tomato. I want it to extend my network to my Directv HD-DVR for use with On Demand movies. Is there a good tutorial for using Tomato to do this? (Kinda the noobs version) I'm ok with standard networking stuff, but this may be a little difficult...

Sorry, mods, I'll post this in the networking forum. Had a brain fart....
