Is this game worth 50 bucks? It looks good, but, every time I bought a game that looks good, it always turns out to be a waste of money lol.

Well, this game is full of bugs, eyefinity appears to be supported, but you can't start the game due to the aspect ratio putting the new game option off of the screen on a 4800 * 1200 resolution.

I ended up starting the game in 1600 * 1200 and within 5 minutes I hit t or f and the game put me into a spectator mode or something. Where I lost control of my character and wasn't able to continue playing. I was able to fly around most of the island, it appears to be pretty big. Also, the cross hairs aren't very fine, giving alot of the game a very consolish look.

FOV appears to be locked, playing at 4800 * 1200 looks like the stretched the screen out and cropped off the upper and lower parts of the screen.

I'm having fun with it. Definitely a different feel from L4D2. Bashing zombies is very gratifying. The menus seem to have a different sensitivity option from in game for some reason. They're really slow. So far it's been a lot of fetch missions. Reminds me of borderlands in some respects. Weapons seem to disintegrate a little too fast. But it could be because I'm using level 1/2 items. I'm using the girl that uses pointed weapons and her rage skill is amazing. Throwing the weapon and getting a cool beheading kill is seriously bad ass.

There's a lot of suitcases and stuff to go through but they're all optional. I usually end up doing it to find new weapons or parts that I can use to craft that ripper thing. Jumping and stuff does feel a little floaty to me. FOV seems a little narrow also but a lot of games of late have had a narrow fov. I prefer 90 personally.

Driving the truck is pretty cool. It handles reasonably well. Fun to run over zombies. I'm not sure if there's an in-game chat option but it would make co-op more enjoyable. No one really text types.

I can see myself putting in a decent amount of hours into this. What about the other pre-order people. You guys liking it so far?

That's why I only preorder proven franchises. Everything else I wait.

Over the past decade, even the proven franchises have shown they can drop the ball - doom 3 for example.

Look at games like brink, homefront and duke nukem forever. They were super hyped up, and then turned out to be flops. Brink had not even been play tested on ATI cards, when the game was released, there were all kinds of problems with ati drivers and cards. All of those problems should have been fixed "before" release, not after release.

I am going to give dead island a few months, give the developers time to work out the bugs, wait for the reviews, and go from there.

Wow that's new. We now have ports AND dev builds for the PC.

I love where it's all going.

I played a while with an i5 750 and GTX 560ti (1680 x 1050). The game was really tearing and there's no option to turn on vsync. I found a way to turn it on in a steam thread:

http://forums.steamgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2101237

Now it's running really smooth with the vsync on and about 10 degrees cooler. So far I haven't had any other problems but I'm guessing this game is going to need a pretty good patch to live up to it's potential.

second post in that thread - "No VSync, AA, or AF options."

What is up with that?

How is the game going so far, have you tried multiplayer?

A lot of people were comparing DI to left 4 dead, what do you think?

Pre-loaded this last week, but I'm glad I didn't stay up last night to play with all the negative I'm hearing.

On the official forums they've announced that a patch should be released before the end of the day which will address the development version issues and hopefully some of these other issues as well.

Also, does anybody's audio "crackle" during cut scenes? I have G930's, and they don't do that in any other game, or any other source of audio.

Why doesn't DI have a versus mode?

Games like call of duty, counter-strike, l4d/l4d2, and team fortress 2 prove that replayability is in team warfare, why did the developers of DI leave a versus mode out?

My opinion, co-op is only going to keep people interested for "so" long. Once the co-op gets old, people will be going back to games like black ops, tf2, l4d/l4d2, counter-strike,,,,,,.

How long can a co-op game keep someones interest before they get bored?

Ever since the release of games like team fortress and counter-strike, the focus has been on team warfare - there are a few exceptions like borderlands, but for the most part the popular games are based on teams fighting each other.

After playing through borderlands on co-op, I knew there was no way it had the replayability like what l4d/l4d2 does. And the same will probably go for DI.

Does anyone that has DI expect it to be a 500+ hour game? How about 1,000+ hours?

Right now I'm sticking with single player and not allowing people to join my game. Still, when I'm close to someone I get a notice and can press j to join their game.

The gameplay isn't like left 4 dead. With l4d, you could just hit a zombie anywhere with a melee weapon quickly for an instant kill. The zombies in dead island are slower and you have to hit them multiple times to kill them. You can also target where you want to hit them; hit them in the head for more damage, hit them in the legs to knock them down. You can't just whail away at them since you lose stamina each time you hit them. You can also throw your weapon at them and kick them to shove them back or knock them over.

I've played about an hour on and off so I can't comment too much yet. My first problem was there's no manual so you can only learn about the game by playing it. My biggest problem with the game so far is that you can't manually save. Perhaps later on there's something like a save room but so far it auto saves once a quest is given/completed. The problem is that when you continue every zombie you killed has respawned along with all the items. So far I've been playing sandbox mode trying to complete a side quest. I'm supposed to find a character but have been searching all around but have yet to find her.

Qucik note: as of typing steam just downloaded another patch (2nd on launch day!).

Some other problems I have are due to interface problems/consolitits. I have an Xbox 360 controller but only use it for over the shoulder games (Dead Space) or games specifically designed for a controller (Batman Arkham Asylum.) I prefer FPS with keyboard/mouse. The first problem I had was with menu screens. The mouse moves very slowly across the screen and it's really annoying. Another anoying think is that when you pick up a weapon you atomatically equip it over your current weapon. I would much rather it go into the inventory. Once I picked up a bottle of alcohol and that automatically equipped and without knowing it I drank the bottle instead of hitting a zombie with my weapon.

The last annoying thing is rebinding the keys. I just played deus ex so I'm used to using e to interact whereas this game uses f. So I changed the interact key to e and the flashlight key to f. The problem is that it never unbound the f so whenever I turned on the flashlight it would also interact with the item you were looking at.

Still, I've only spent an hour so I am in no way able to recommend for or against this game yet, only my quick impressions. Personally, I don't regret spending $34 for it but wouldn't have bought it retail. For those on the fence, I recommend waiting until theres a price drop and the game is properly patched.

I admire that you bought your son a copy, and spend time with your son playing games.

Getting a new game on a 3 day weekend is not out of reach of the consumer. I vote with my pocketbook, and I vote that releasing the game on thursday would be better then midnight on monday.

a polish dev and UK publisher, they dont have a holiday

but nice crybabying

I've watched some streams on twitch.tv

game seems fun in co-op mode with friends but boring in single player mode

if you are playing the PC version, press the "Y" button for a surprise

I think the developers of dead island have shown how much they care about the consumer.

Instead of unlocking the game on Friday and giving people a 3 day weekend to play, the game is unlocked in the last few hours of labor day.

~~ EDIT ~~

I think I will be boycotting dead island, just because they waited until the end of monday to release the game. People get a 3 day weekend, and the publisher / developers can not even give the consumers something to play? Blah.

Buh bye.......

OMG... Imagine what the developers thing of the rest of the world? They (rest of world) get it later? DAMN US Developers... Oh.... Wait.......:D
