Anyone see the preview of Dead Island on Steam?

Looks interesting, to say the least. Some of the infected zombies remind me of left 4 dead. There seems to be something like the boomer and the charger.

Plot seems to be - you pass out from a night of binge drinking, wake up the next morning and the world has gone to hell in a handbag.

I am debating on preorder or wait for reviews.
 
Some people just have no patience. If marketing has taught us anything, previews these days tend to be better than the actual product.

Portal 2 was the first game I preorded in years, and I bought the 2 pack which came with the original portal for free.
 
Looks very interesting. May pick it up for shits and giggles. Still have some stuff from the Steam sale I haven't even launched once though.
 
If it's single player only I probably wouldn't pre-order it. However, the game uses steamworks though so you could always pick it up from the cheapest place and activate on steam.
 
I had high hopes for it when the very first trailer came out. I watched the 20 min gameplay one though, and it looks like a really slow game.

Watched a few minutes of gameplay, it looked kinda boring. Zombie runs up, kill it with a machete, zombie runs up, kill with machete, zombie runs up, kill with machete,,,,, repeat.

There was one part of the video were blood was spewing from a zombie, the blood looked so fake I just shook my head. I have not see animations that bad in maybe 10 years.

The reloading animation of the ak47 looked rather week. I did not even see the magazine leave the rifle, the hands just went though the process of reloading, but nothing changed on the rifle.

I preordered Starcraft 2. The only games I'll preorder for are either if I got to play the beta or if it's from a highly rated established franchise. Pretty much only Blizzard and Valve get my preorder.
 
I'm sick of zombies.

what is it about this one that makes it worthwhile?

is it a GTA (or maybe Just Cause 2)-style sandbox game with missions? That could make it a bit more interesting, but...I'm just sick of zombies.
 
Judging by the gameplay videos, it looks like "Far Cry 2: Dead Rising"

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, if you like both those things.
 
I watched the 20 minute game play video, and I really hope that was made with an early beta. There was a lot of clipping issues, and I noticed some tearing and other video glitches. If they can't even manage to make a 20 minute, heavily edited, demonstration video with out it being full of bugs just how bad is game play going to be?

After watching the video I thought the same. I think it looks like it might be fun. Not sure I'd pay full price though. Maybe wait till it goes on sale a few months after release.
 
I think its a lot like a GTA:Zombies with elements of dead rising and l4d.

I am cautiously optimistic.

Complaints I've heard so far (not confirmed) is they removed the hit system that sheared off flesh and bone and no day night cycle.

I watched the 20 minute gameplay video when it first came out. I wasn't convinced it's going to be anything special. Probably wait for the $5 steam sale.

It looks extremely boring. Its probably because I'm an avid left 4 dead player. "walking zombies" are boring...

No, I understand why of the complaints from the consumers (players). My question was more of why the change was made in the first place. Why did the devs supposedly removed the hit system and sheared off flesh and bone? To which my question was they (or someone nagging at them) thought it was to graphic for the consumer (players). I seriously doubt players would complain about too much graphic. We like realism.

left 4 dead has an option to reduce gore. so does unreal tournament 3.
 
I was on the fence but bit once I saw it for $34 at green man gaming with the coupon 20SUM-MERSA-VINGS:

I am preloading it right now. From what I've seen it looks like Fallout 3 with Zombies. If you search youtube (or IGN) there's a few vidoes of the first half an hour or so of gameplay if you're not sure about it.
