Price drop..now $135 - http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0012J0MYW/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

Bring the power and security of a NAS Server with the SS4200-E from Intel. It handles up to 4 SATA II drives in its internal 3.5" drive bays for a massive 4TB storage space. You can add drives to the 2 eSATA ports and 2 USB 2.0 ports for capacity expansion.

The SS4200-E supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, and 10, giving you plenty of options, so you can keep your data in safety. With one Intel Gigabit LAN port, it also supports FTP and HTTP/s for web based transfers. The whole thing is powered by a 250W power supply so the system will get all the power that it needs.

Nice review on Tom's Hardware: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ss4200-e-nas-raid,2076.html

That's a hot price for a NAS box, let alone one that holds 4 drives and has two more eSATA ports! Heck, a 4 drive Chenbro mini ITX case costs more than this!

I'd totally get one if:

1) It was a full PC (only missing what, VGA port?)

2) It had a second network port

3) It was a bit more power efficient

EDIT:

4) I can roll my own OS

Load sharing would be my guess. One in, and one out.
Or I guess each would have their own IP so I guess you could do more with that?

If only I didn't already have 4 NAS's. I wish this was out before I picked up my last one, this looks like a better option.

Switches make direct connections between ports, so two ports and you could have two clients each getting the full gigabit bandwidth.

Very nice looking box, but I am still twisting on the full PC vs NAS vs Media PC hooked up the home theater system.

For what it's worth, a Newegg email today shows what looks to be this server as being a Shell Shocker the end of the week, so the price may go down a bit then.

I hope it's not gonna be much cheaper than 170 when it's on shell shocker... Just bought it yesterday...

From the Tom's review,

2x HDD 4x HDD
Sleep 35 W 38 W
Idle 46 W 60 W
Operating 50 W 73 W

35w in sleep mode is a concern.

The newegg sellshocker preview email has what appears to be this unit pictured coming up for a sell shocker sale.

Pretty sure you can. There's bunches of people that have taken this or the Fujitsu rebadge (which runs WHS), and added a VGA riser to do setup.
