about the accesstek one, I just opened it and am using it. It can do regular jobs but I am not sure whether it can copy SD2 discs.
I don't have a SD2 disk to test it. The drive is lighter than my another teac 24x. Some not satisfying thing is when it reads, the spin noise
is a little bigger. When writing, seems ok.
Yes, it has burnproof. It is another technology called exaclink. The company which invented claims it is better than other burn proof technology. But who knows?
Anyway, it is not bad for what you pay,but if you have better choise, why not?

AOpen will copy SafeDisc2. I copied this reply someone posted in another thread.

<< AOpen DOES SD2 !!

Ahh, found it. I remember awhile back that CloneCD had an "Amplify Weak Sector" feature that enabled CloneCD to do SD2 backups even with drives that weren't technically SD2 compatible. In the US and UK you are not allowed to use the AWS function and it isn't "available" although you can see it (it's greyed out).

But, if you set your Region setting in Windows (yes, it works in XP) for Canada, then pull up CloneCD, you will be able to access the Amplify Weak Sectors box. I've tried this and it does indeed work. Remember, this box only appears when you are writing a CD.

Also, you can do a registry edit to enable the AWS box or you can download CloneAMP to make the changes for you. Not all CD-RWs can use the AWS feature. BUT the Aopen CAN!

Please check out the following links.

For those Aopen people, I wouldn't be disappointed one bit. I just wish I'd thought about looking at this earlier before wasting my time hunting down a frickin' Liteon.
http://www.leech.at/sd2brenner - Tells you which burners are compatible with AWS, in addition to the AOpen.

http://www.cdrsoft.cc/index3.html - Search for "amplify." Find files and Forums discussing SD2, CloneCD and AWS workaround.
http://www.clonecd.net/about.htm - General info on CloneCD.

Modifying your system to do SD2 should take less than five minutes. Now, go forth and SD2. >>

MysticMan1,

Nice find :) I'm not returning my AOpen.....The LiteOn just doesn't seem to be "that much better", to go through the hassle. Thanks for the great deal!

Got a Cendyne 16x12x40 on a raincheck from a previous ad. It's an Accesstek. Seems to work ok, and I only do fairly ordinary tasks so I decided to keep it. WARNING! the rebate center doesn't know about this month's $30 rebate! They rejected mine because they think it's last month's $20 rebate. I referred them to the Office Max on-line form, and they're "researching". We'll see if they get it straightened out.:|

<< iamme, Do you know what the Nero patch for the AOpen drive does or what it fixes?? >>

No, I haven't had a chance to install my CD-RW to my laptop yet (waiting for my Firewire enclosure and PC Card :) ). I'll probably hook it all up and try it out before using the update. It looks like an update for Nero, so I don't think it does anything to the CD-RW (like a firmware update or anything like that). But, like I said, I'm not sure.

Ok I got the I/O Magic 24x10x40x CD-RW from Office Max. Used the $25 off $100 also added the Jellybean Plum Caller ID and a box of paper clips.

Subtotal: $100.26
Tax: $5.27
Delivery: $0.00
Discounts: $25.00

Grand Total: $80.53
and after I get my rebates it will be $60.53

Now I did some research on the drive I got. Took me awhile to figure out just which one I did get. On the compliance sticker on top of the driver. I saw in very fine print. Complies with Aopen Inc. So I knew it was an Aopen CD-RW. I read the review of the drive at CDR-INFO. Link here And the Aopen drive came in 1st place or 2nd place (to the Plextor CD-RW) in most of the test. And it can do everything that the LiteOn CD-RW can do. To make sure of it being an Aopen CD-RW drive I went to the Aopen website Link here They have the model number of the CRW2440 listed as Model. Part NO.
Nero Bonus Pack 91.60D37.011
Bulk Pack 91.60D37.002
My model number is 91.60D37.034
I don't know why the last 3 digits of mine don't match either of theirs, but I suppect that it's just a different batch number made for I/O Magic drives. I couldn't get the Nero software to work with my Aopen cd-rw until I updated to Nero version 5551. And I couldn't get the Nero version 5572 to install even with the Nero Aopen patched version no big deal version 5551 works fine.

I am really happy with the Aopen cd-rw that I got and see no reason to be disappointed by not getting an LiteOn cd-rw. Thanks for posting this deal. I think it's a great deal wether you get the Aopen or LiteOn cd-rw drives.
