Rxed mine today. But having trouble installing the jumpshot. Bummer :disgust: My PC is running Win2K and is not detecting the jumpshot cable. I've tried all configuration. I've a Kodak DC4800 which also creates a virtual drive. Tried after uninstalling it too. No luck yet!!

I think I figured the real problem, its the CF cards supplied by buy.com they are not USB enabled.

I tried the jumpshot cable with my co-workers' USB enabled CF and voila! it worked.
What should we do now ?? Call up buy.com and ask for a replacement. I think they have a different return policy for their price-mistake-of-the-day items.

Did buy.com say anywhere that they were supplying USB enabled CF cards with the package ??

Thanks

i can't believe that Buy.com would purposely provide a jumpshot cable AND non-usb CF card. this must have been a mistake. call them up and complain. this would be like selling a CDRW drive and including a free sample of DVD-R media. clearly someone screwed up, imho.

I just got a reply from buy.com about the usb flash card thing, and they said that they receive the player and compact flash already packaged together. So, we are going to have to contact the manufacturer about this.

We apologize for the trouble you have encountered with item #70008494
(128MB CF Card w/FREE MP3 Player, Headphones, Jumpshot Cable). Because
of the vast inventory we do carry, we do not have any additional product
information other than what is available in our product descriptions
shown on our website. Additionally, since the Manufacturer packages
their products, we do not have extra parts (eg: USB enabled compact
flash cards) available to ship. We apologize for this inconvenience.

You can either contact the manufacturer for the part that was not
included or was damaged, or you can return the product to us for a
credit to your credit card. Unfortunately this item is no longer
available on the buy.com site, and we would be unable to accept the
return for replacement.

damn.. you guys are right...
I tried it with another card that clearly says "usb-enabled" and it works fine.

How are the CFs you got? Mine is pretty ugly looking. No nice label, just a small white label with the part #.

I have had no trouble with mine. My card even says usb enabled. Running win98 se and it detected it and I was able to drag and drop files. Maybe they shipped after a time with diff. cards

jsfiat,

Does your card have a full label on it? or just the white sticker?

Was it shipped within a few days of ordering or was it restocked frist (i.e. you got it a day or two ago)?

I just got off the phone from Smart Modular - so you guys don't have to innundate them with calls.

What the guy said that they didn't realize that the some of the packages came with NON usb-enabled CF until the people start complaining, so they're in a process to setup buy.com to send all the buyers a "regular" CF -reader- that should work with non usb-enabled CF.

He said to wait for an email from buy.com within a day or two.

KingofBladez,

The reader we got is supposed to work with USB enabled CF cards -- apparently some of ours are not (probably the restocked shipment). The problem is the card is not USB enabled. So, it's not working for us.

This leaves them with two options (if we exclude the worst case [for us]):
1. Send us a new USB-enabled CF card (USB controller is in the card itself) or
2. Send us a stadard CF card reader (USB controller is in reader).

Both types of readers usually plug into your USB ports on your computers, so no real difference in terms of connectivity. Now, we might get shorted if the USB-enabled CF card we were supposed to get is a 4x or greater card. That is, our transfer rates might be slower. I don't remember much about the CF card we were supposed to get, so I can't confirm this 4x thing.

When I bugged buy.com customer support with the wrong type of CF card they generated an RMA number and emailed me links to a prepaid UPS Return Label. How long did the SMART CF guys say they'll take to ship the new readers. I'm almost ready to ship this puppy back.

Ive been in touch with buy.com since the beginning and just wrote them to see if they have heard anything about what smart modular plans on doing.
