yeah, I haven't received the email from buy.com either.
I contacted the Smart Modular guy again. Here's what he said:

"I am the one that is controlling this now. As far as you getting a
message from Buy.com, I do not why you have not been contacted. I am in
the process of testing so that we can send customers the proper reader.
I hope to have this completed this week and then my sales group will
inform Buy.com on the reader that will be sent out. How they are
handling it, I am not sure, because it is going through the Marketing
group since this is where the original deal for the mp3 player, card and
reader came from.

Check your e-mail:

Dear icecube,

Thank you for shopping at buy.com, the internet superstore.

encounter while trying to use the Smart Modular Technologies CompactFlash
Card with the LexarMedia Jumpshot Cable that were sold together in a
bundle package.

The replacement adapter is located at:

In order to expedite the resolution of this situation, you will be sent a
buy.com gift certificate in the amount of $40.33. This covers the cost of
the replacement adapter, plus the cost of ground shipping and tax where
applicable. Please expect to receive your buy.com gift certificate via
email within the next 12 hours.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused

Thanks again for shopping with us. We look forward to serving you in the
future.

Sincerely,

(The reason they're sending a $40+ gift certificate is because I bought 2)

I don't know if it's worth keeping or of I want a refund. Thoughts?

Yup, I just got the same email.

Why would you want a return the product? If you need a CF reader, buy one and keep the rest of the money (or buy something else you want) and if you don't need a CF reader, just buy something else! Considering you only paid about $107 for both packages and getting free $40 worth of stuff is a good deal.

I was just thinking of returning it because I read the luke-warm reviews of the mp3 player. And after examining it, it does seem a bit cheap (though it's probably worth the price). Just wasn't sure what I wanted to do.

I didn't consider just buying 1 cf reader...if I give one of the players to my sister we'll each need a reader...

I tried the MP3 player.. It's very simple, but does its job.
Having a CF reader is nice anyways, especially if you have/will buy a digital camera.

Buy a Dazzle 6 in 1 reader. Now your ready to read almost anything. And it's fast. Especially compared to using the reader in my HP1115 printer. The Dazzle took 45 seconds to download 32megs to my HD. The HP printer's reader took like 10 minutes! I didn't mind that too much until I used the Dazzle.

And on ME & XP the Dazzle doesn't need drivers.

Try formatting the card and trying again...I had a few problems with playing more than 3 or 4 songs if I loaded 15-20 high bitrate mp3s (320 kbps). I just reformatted and tried again a couple times and now it's working fine...

I also figured out how to control play order:

The order the files are played is the order they were placed onto the card. If you drag and drop one file at a time onto the card, that is the order they will be played.

Since in a multiple file copy Windows doesn't let you control the order files are copied, it's hard to get around this.

But that's the answer. Hope this helps!!

Thanks for the advice, icecube. I tried it and it still wont play anything, even with just 4 mp3s on there.
Now buy.com is saying they wont take it back cause it's 14 days after the shipping date...Im arguing with them that I wasnt even able to test the product until yesterday, I hope I dont get stuck with this pos :(

Are the files in a folder? I have found that the player won't play any file that are stored in folders.

Nope, not in a folder.
I was reading some german complaint pages about this thing and it appears that it doesnt like certain 128mb cf flash cards.

Talking to buy.com support is like dealing with a machine, it definitely lacks a human feeling to it...and from reading the complaints about the player it seems the manufacturer isnt much help either.
Sigh, anyone want a jumpshot cable, regular SanDisk CF reader, and a 128mb CF card? ;)
