Thank you very much, Souka!

I did not know that these enclosures provide both power and the data port to the IDE drive, while drawing both solely from the USB port of the computer. Your solution looks great (if it is indeed a purely USB solution).

For a 40gb usb solution...just get this...

40GB drive $62.50 w/3yr warranty

2.5" USB Enclosure $13.99
http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817155704

For about $80..... you get a 40gb 5400rpm portable, USB powered device.

I don't know about the apricorn solution's power requirements....it may just work fine via usb only.

For other USB enclosures at newegg, use the below link.. I sorted by "Best Rating"

Please pardon my asking this; I ask because I do not know enough. The Sabrent External Enclosure seems to have an internal interface that is IDE, while the Western Digital Scorpio Hard Drive has an ATA-6 interface. Will this not cause a problem?

Thanks,

That's quite a temperament you have.

First you hijack the thread, then you insult me. Now you recommend a $1400 drive. Thanks for your help smarta$$.

Really? What do you recommend?

Your 40gb portable solution is cool, but it's not quite pocketable. Yeh, it'll fit in your pocket, but it's kind of heavy and it's just not practical to carry around that way. And if you take it out of your pocket to give it to a friend it's gonna look kind of conspicuous and suspicious.

for espionage...you dumb*ss.... I'd get this....
if 8gb is enough capacity http://www.supermediastore.com/8gb-usb-flash-drive-flash-drives-buslink.html
if 1gb is enough...and it's the smallest around...period... http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820214009

saves a whopping -$1200 for a thumbdrive thats only 3 GB bigger...
