bottom line, everything you said is inaccurate and/or irrelevant

Indeed. I don't find user1234 to be the moron here.

If the x800xl is so far below the average... this just makes this deal EVEN HOTTER. This isn't a discussion about how good the card is, just the deal... so obviously, the x800xl is the better deal. Go home.

Err, I wasn't calling him a moron. I was quoting him calling ME a moron and asking him to leave the personal comments out of it.

 you're going to have to explain this one to me bud, how is it that getting a new card for MSRP while most cards are retailing for OVER MSRP, and "selling" your card back to them for NO LOSS, negating the original "savings" you had when buying your card?

Let's consider the alternative. I buy a 6800GT for $368 from Monarch, 60 days from now I want to upgrade my card, so I sell it in the FS/T for probably $280-300 (I sold mine for $280 two weeks ago). So far, I've taken a $68-88 + shipping overall. Now, I purchase a retail 6800 Ultra from the same site for $499, I am still out that $68-88 + shipping.

You are being GAURANTEED NO LOSS on giving up your card, and you are being GAURANTEED MSRP on your new purchase. It could even be a G70 or some hot new card that just hit shelves and everywhere else they are price gouging the hell out of it which you can't deny is common in this market. I call that a good deal.

not sure what's a G70 but there is no hot new card coming out in the next 90 days from nvidia which would make for a magical upgrade. And paying MSRP is not a good deal - MSRP is the worst deal under normal circumstances, because you should always be able to buy it for MSRP at the large retail chains (they don't gouge), or direct from the manudacturer. MSRP is a rip off price, because it's already at least 25% above wholesale price, so that's why you see retailers being able to give a discount off MSRP and still make a profit. But it is true that when availability is low, some retailers gouge and charge as much as they can, even way above MSRP, but you have to realize that during these shortages, the places that sell for MSRP are always out of stock. So even though the step up program guarantees you the "great deal" of paying MSRP, if there is a shortage you will simply not get the card and will have to wait like everyone else that is not willing to pay above MSRP.

At least we can all agree that what you said about paying $100 extra to step up to the Ultra is not true - it would be $140 in the case where you pay $360 for a GT. I reckon you better start admitting your mistakes, rather then getting into deeper BSing.

btw, here's a nice review comparing the PowerColor X800XL AGP to other cards, including 6800GT (agp). It seems that nvidia cards have even a larger advantage in Riddick (up to 50%) than in Doom3 (only 20-25%), but X800XL is leading in HL2, FarCry and pacific fighters.

...I sold my GT on eBay for $375 w/ shipping less than two weeks ago. Why the HELL would you sell a GT to buy an Ultra? For any loss? Even $100 like the upgrade program? The loss is spending $100, sending your card in, and waiting for an ultra to come. The upgrade program is definitely not HOT, so keep it out of HOT DEALS. Last time I checked(which is when I bought my x800xl pci-e for $269, an ultra was NOT worth $369 + $100 in my eyes). The reason I spent $270 on a video card was because spending $470 for +10% gain was a joke. I'd rather spend it on some other part that mattered.

Reading comprehension is greater than me, eh? Wow, good point man. I stand corrected. Going to follow it with an 'O3nEd!!!1010101LOLBBQOMG!!!'? Where did you learn that at? The university of less than signs and greater than signs?

Only reason I keep this up is the fact that it's a killer deal, and i want people to see, and hell, its more fun than a bump.

Point is, this card currently costs $110 UNDER the cheapest 6800GT. Case closed.
If you wanna argue how justifying spending that extra $110 on some lame ass upgrade program, move it to OT.
If you wanna talk about how the x800xl sucks, move it to OT, or flame a different board, but this is Hot Deals, and this is in fact, a hot deal.
This deal is hot, so therefore, its a hot deal. Theres not much else to discuss.

time for my $.02

if both the 800XL and 6800GT were selling for $300 each, i'd buy the 6800GT (read: money is not a factor). however, since the cheapest PCIE 6800GT is going for ~$340, whereas the 800XL is available here for $250, i'll go with the 800XL (which i'll buy in about a week, once i get my new rig from UPS) as the 6800GT isn't $90+ better.

I would hold off on buying a pci-e GT right now, even if you prefer it, as the price is in the process of going down. I'm seeing a new low price every week, now it's $340, last week it was $360, and previously it was at least $380. I believe that the availability of the X800XL is pushing down the price of the 6800GT, and I think it will only level off at $300 or below, since you can't justify more than a $50 premium. Performance wise the cards are on par, but the 6800GT has the SLI, linux and SM3 support which gives it a small advantage.

i think the 6800gt is a better card, just not THAT better
a 300 dollar 6800gt would leave the x800xls at a pretty low price, too
heres to driving down the price on hardware

I gotta say that I'm starting to get a little annoyed the nVidia is having some wacky driver issues these days =( their newer drivers all have this moronic triple buffering problem in World of Warcraft that freezes the mouse up. In the previous patch of WoW at least after the mouse froze up you could still highlight buttons (just the mouse cursor wouldn't follow so you would basically have an insivible mouse), but the newest patch apparently doesn't even have the highlighting work.

It's apparently a problem with nVidia's new triple buffering because it works on all the older drivers (61 and prior) but that's idiotic for me to have to run ancient drivers just so I can freakin' use my mouse. The most ironic thing of course, is that world of warcraft is an "nvidia way it's meant to be played" game, which makes it quite sad.

This stupid problem is of course all over the WoW forums, but still no fix...oh sure there's a workaround like "turn off triple buffering" which makes my WoW slow down plenty. Oh yay.

Do people run into performance issues running an ATI card on an nVidia chipset? And will ATI have to release their own chipset before we can start seeing dual video cards?

im on an nforce4 chip and zero problems what so ever

Do you really think an ATI "sli" solution will ever work on a NVIDIA MB? Also this card will not work with any SLI solution its missing key components like the connector piece for the 2nd card.

Nope, I never said that though. I just meant that if ATi does ever they'll have to release their own solution for sli, aka their own chipset, similiar to an nforce4 sli.
I was pretty sure that ati was never going to use a bridge, anyway.

I can't wait until the PCI-Express standard is so fractured by proprietary parallel graphics architectures that consoles take over gaming ... ooops nevermind.

Shame this deal is dead :-|
