I hope everyone who bought a dell is happy with their machine. I have pretty much given up on the company. I had a terrible experience dealing with their Indian based customer service. Dell is not the same company as when I first started dealing with them back in 96. They have changed.....for the much worse. Their service is as bad as Packard Bell (remember??!??) was back then.

Linux should run on all intel based systems within reason... running Redhat 9 on my K6/3-450... runs fine. A P4 will make it fly even faster.

EDIT: intel based system should be x86 based systems.... sorry... using terminology we use at work.

Do you mean to say that PentiumVs are incompatible with Linux? I'm confused...

Hi All,
Three quick questions
Does anyone know the MB model, can it be jumpered to a 533 bus ?
If it has a 533 bus will we be able to upgrade the cpu ?
Does the board have a agp slot, one person said they got a agp card with it ?
Thanks for your help
Ed

I think it is a 533 bus and you could upgrade the CPU. There is no AGP slot. 3 PCI only AFAIK.

Dimension 2400

Processor: Intel® Pentium® 4 Processors at 2.20GHz with 400MHz FSB or 2.4GHz with 533MHz FSB and Celeron® Processors at 2.40GHz with 400MHz FSB.

I'm guessing they use the same motherboard regardless of processor, which leads me to believe it has a 533MHz FSB.

Cnet Review

You won't find Intel's new 865 (a.k.a. Springdale) chipset in Dell's budget Dimension line. The Dimension 2400 uses the Intel 845GV chipset, which offers speedier subsystems than the Dimension 2350's 845GL chipset does: the frontside bus increases from 400MHz to 533MHz and supports faster 333MHz DDR memory, up from 266MHz. The motherboard supports up to 1GB of memory and both Celeron and Pentium 4 processors.

I ordered two for my kids - to upgrade their homemade 1.4 AMD boxes. Can anyone comment on the video performance for light-gamers? They have 32mb AGP cards currently. I don't want to go out and buy new PCI video cards.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but I don't think so......

You are correct about the 42xxx rebates, but the rebates offered in this deal are the following that begin with 44xxx

$100 MAIL-IN REBATE 44102 Redeem your rebate after purchase at dell4me.com/ rebates
$100 MAIL-IN SYSTEM REBATE 44101. Redeem within 30 days of ship at dell4me.com/rebates

My girlfriend has the 2350, and while it may not be the best for games, somone who only surfs the web, uses Office, or does web design can have a kick-arse PC for around $210 after rebates. Girlfriend plays rollercoaster tycoon all the time and the sims... works fine for that. Only bad thing was the 128ram, but we upgraded another 512 chip a few months back for $50. Just my 2 cents... not trying to flame anyone, but I don't understand why everyone isn't jumping on this. I'm gonna up the ram another 512, then turn it into my backup web/ftp/email server...

The last time I used Dell rebates they did not have specific forms for each. Instead they had a universal form and they read what rebates were to be filled from the document they require to be sent with the general form ... your shipping form or invoice, cannot remember which. And there was not much of a wait. In fact, I received mine totalling $450 in far less than 10 weeks ... am thinking it was only 3 or 4 at most. Bekker

Oh no, another pricing mistake by Dell. :D

If you are buying this for someone and you want a complete system (i.e. with monitor) the 17" CRT monitor is only $80 more. It's normally $110/120 so this is a good price. Go ahead and buy the monitor too.

As far as the two rebates, the key is that they have two different dept. numbers. You can get the generic Dell rebate form that they have been using for a while now __HERE__. Send in the completed form with your packing slip highlighting the two rebate offers.

Maybe I'm blind this morning but I don't see this posted at biggwallet. Once it is they will go crazy ordering them and probably kill the deal so if you're thinking about ordering it you better order now.
EDIT: Found it, it's locked now.

I am somewhat confused about this deal and what's going on on ebay. There are several posted there new and unopened with "buy it now" prices not much higher than the various deals listed here. I guess if one doubted getting both rebates one could check to see how close the prices are on ebay and buy there ... if you trust ebay. Also, can the mboard in these be chaanged very easliy? If so it might be feasible to replace it with one having a AGP slot. Bekker

I think the system summary before checkout has with 2 rebates but the invoice or final order only show one rebate. So how are you going to get two rebates?
Thanks.

Hot dog, I actually got in on this one. This puppy will make a killer dedicated video capture/DVD burning system. Thanks to RasputiNJ and FatWallet!

EDIT: According to the FW thread some people are seeing the two rebates on their invoice and some are not. Some said one rebate disappeared and then showed up again. I guess you'll know when you receive your packing slip.

Has someone received their invoice or final order yet? I have not seen one. If it does only show one rebate you will have to fight for the second rebate by using your printout of the system config and cart summary to prove the two rebates were offered.

LOL........

Dude, try looking at the very first line in the OP.....
I did, dude. I just found the original thread at FW. It did not have any names or models in the title so if you were searching you would not see it and it has been locked. Folks at FW are getting crafty. I guess it's because people over here are going over to FW and marking great deals as dead or as a negative.

I'm surprised that his thread has not received more attention. The folks at FW have been going crazy over this since yesterday afternoon.
