Tape Backup Media Travan 40, Formatted Tape Media Cartridge, 1 Pack

And is there a Tape Drive to use this media with?

No, but the media is "Free" so why not get it along with a worthless mouse and keyboard. GP

I just visually compared my 4550 with my 400SC. The metal clamshell case frame appears to be exactly the same. The outer casing is plastic on both. The 4550 has some flair while the 400SC is kinda of plain.

Sorry I don't have pics, my digital camera is out of wack.

You really do need this RossMAN. 😀

I figured it out, you work for CitiBank ... don't you? Fess up!

Looks like all my Sku's etc. matched yours although I didnt get the same descriptions as you did for the 2.8 cpu. Thank you for the information.

Rossman, yes I did enter the evalue code and received the $100 mail in rebate (as opposed to the $50) on the description list. $32 tax for CA so I'm looking at $330 AR.

Sep. of last year I missed out on the 3.2 deal and got the 2.8. But then again I got in on the (now defunct?) 'buy back' for the memory and hard drive. Still have that video card tho. Hey, didnt notice a video card option for this year's offering.

Definitely did not notice that at first glace. The tapes general run $30 to $50, when sold in a 1 pack.

man, this is smoking hot. my friend is looking for a computer. anyway, someone up there say that it can use as personal desktop. is that true ? if it is true then i will jump in a heart beat. I never have any experiences with server, so i just want to make sure. anyone know how long will it last ? Thankx

Oops. Sorry to put some pain into the deal but here is some of the fine print. It doesn't affect any of us who have bought it Thursday or today (Friday), but for the rest of y'all - you're on the clock:
Right now, buy a PowerEdge 400SC and receive 50% off the Intel® Pentium® 4 2.8GHz processor1, $150 instant savings and $50 mail-in rebate. Archive and protect your critical business data and help boost network speed and overall productivity - and SAVE!
Expires Friday, 09/10/04.

And for RossMAN's question:
What are the chances of this falling to $249 in the next 1-2 months?

Can any coupons be used on this?

Dell's 3Q ends in aboot 20 days. I've noticed a rebate/reduction cycle of about seven days with each new sale appearing every Thursday. However, the best section of the deal usually expire by Saturday (like the 50% processor upgrade). So they have two weeks to push more business units. For me, the expected delivery date is next Friday, so that cuts me out if I want to back out of the deal before they charge my account.

hot deal.. i got in but i forgot to add mouse and keyboard... where do i go to cancel or revise my order online? or do i have to call?

You can ask them to remove your order by phone or on-line. The phone banks are manned 7 AM - 8 PM CENTRAL time (Austin, TX). The on-line folks are there 24/7 at:
"SMB_OnlineOrder_Resolution" <SMB_onlineorder_resolution@dell.com>

EDIT: be sure to give them your Customer number, Order number, and the estimated shipping date in the body of your email. It has worked for me. And use the email address that you specified in the purchase order. That helps too.

Now I must get sleep...

I jumped on this yesterday...was a nice deal with the additional memory. Now all I need is an additional 512Mb and another drive. Any good SATA drive deals? Also, anyone looking to sell the 512Mb that came with their system?

No worries everyone. For those who can't afford it now, Dell has these deals at the end of every Quarter. Next deal will come up in December/January.

Hello.. i was gonna order this last night.. but didn't know what to choose for the below question.. Can anyone explain to me what they do or what it is??

Dell recommends at least a RAID 1 configuration for all servers in order to protect your business data. RAID 1 requires 2 hard drives and "mirrors" your data, so that in the event of a crash the 2nd hard drive automatically takes the place of the original hard drive without any loss of performance, data or time.

C1, Motherboard IDE, Ascending Order, 1 Hard drive

C4, Add-In Serial ATA Promise RAID Card, RAID 0, 2 Serial ATA Hard Drives

C6, Add-In Raid Card,RAID 1 with a 2 Hard Drive Configuration

C7, Add-In Serial ATA Promise RAID Card, RAID 1, 2 Serial ATA Hard Drives

I went to order this and it appears they have changed the price already. 🙁

Now showing as $697, still with the $250 in rebates, bringing down to $447.

Anyone else getting this? Just want to make sure I'm in the right place....

Quick question(s)...

Does anyone know what motherboard this computer uses. Essentially, I would love to take out the motherboard and use it in my current case, sell this RAM and use my 1GB of HyperX PC2700 I already have, and use my Ti4800 in conjunction with the PCI card they send with the system. Anyone know if this is possible?

Please refer to the unofficial PE 400SC FAQ mentioned in the original post. Approximately one third down the page, under the heading "What kind of motherboard does the 400SC use?".

Slightly below said heading one will find, "Will the motherboard fit in an ATX case?", which should prove invaluable.
