Hi, im new here and i stepped on this thread. all i have to say is:
OMFG IM GETTIN A DELL!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? WHAT HAVE I DONE?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!???

Welcome to the forums 🙂

DUDE YOU'RE GETTING A DELL!!!

 on the house!

I just purchased my second in as many weeks, and I'll purchase another next week, and the week after, and the week after that, and....................

What are the chances of this falling to $249 in the next 1-2 months?

Can any coupons be used on this?

The CPU options are:
2) P4 2.8, 512KB cache, 800 FSB [add $50]
3) 50% Off Upgrade to P4 2.8

Option 3 is $50 cheaper but nowhere does it state if it's an 800 FSB. Product # and Sku for them are different. Can someone please confirm if #3) is an 800 FSB? Comparing to last year's purchase doesn't help as Dell numbers have changed.

TIA

I see the $100 mail-in rebate coupon in the detail section of the cart. So I assume the MIR will be shipped with the system?

All you need is the packing slip. Fortunately Dell switched to generic rebate forms last year.

How similiar is the 400SC case to the old 4500/4550 clamshell cases? I've seen the 400SC pictures but it would be nice to have some side by side pics.
I just visually compared my 4550 with my 400SC. The metal clamshell case frame appears to be exactly the same. The outer casing is plastic on both. The 4550 has some flair while the 400SC is kinda of plain.

Sorry I don't have pics, my digital camera is out of wack.

You really do need this RossMAN. 😀

Am fully convinced - if prompted - Ross could withdraw blood from a stone.

The epitome of a Hot Dealer, he is.

Approximately how old would that 400SC be? Am not familiar with older 400SC case designs, but the outer casings on all the recent 400SCs (within the last 18 months or so) were not plastic.

I bought mine about a year ago. Maybe they changed it. The last one I bought was the deal for $179 and I sold both of my free PDAs but I have not used it yet. 😀

Man, I really didn't need to order this... but of course I did. Thanks for the hot deal, now to pawn off some old components on to my coworkers...

Certainly the most recent batch I dealt with personally (ordered four, in mid-July) were all non-plastic casings. Very odd. Perhaps it has indeed changed since your purchase.

For reference purposes, the machines ordered looked like this photograph taken from the Unofficial FAQ.

i would love to buy like 5 of these and just crunch my ass off

mmmmm 5 HT 2.8ghz crunchers...and
