You do need a network adapter, but you don't have to have a modded PS2 to do that. you just need the HDLoader (or whatever the other version of it is called). I have this, and it lets me load my games off the hard drive instead of from the cd which helps with the loading times A LOT.

My question is how you going to connect the HD to your PS2? Do you have to buy a mount kit.

Btw, I assume that "unconditional product replacement" means that you will get brand-new replacement HD from the retail store chain itself, not a refurb repaired model from the mfg, right? (What are the odds that they will still stock a measly 60GB PATA drive in two years? Think about it. Probably good for a free upgrade at the same time. :) )

I dont trust maxtor myself anymore just had two reality new drives(sligthly over a year)die on me with very little use. In fact the second one died on me two days after the warenty expired. So lots of data loss :'(
Just bought a seagate 160 for $100 from newegg with 5 year warrenty :)

beware: these drivers are pretty old, and most likely are out of warranty or very very close to being out of warranty. these drives has a 1 year warranty that is set at the date of manufacturer, NOT the date of purchase. that is the reason why these babies are going for so cheap. its close to warranty ending and these 1 year warranty drives arn't created to last more than a year.

i inputted this in for my 60 gig drive, and no where does it state the purchase date. you type in the model number and tahts it. the drive itself has been in use for 9 months, but no where can i put in that info anywhere

The Maxtor website doesn't know when you purchased the drive. That's what the sales receipt is for.

The serial number you input gives an out of warranty date based on the production date assuming it's fairly close pretty close to a customer's purchase date. They actually give themselves an extra month or two based on the production date. I have bought a pretty recently made drive that looked like it gave me a couple extra months over the warranty based on my purchase date. As I posted right before you, and it's from the Maxtor website, the warranty is based on the purchase date, not on the production date.

The only time where you would use the production date/warranty date scenario is if you lost the sales receipt and couldn't prove the purchase date, they would then use the info that was generated from the production date to determine warranty eligibility.

yeah that makes alot more sense doesnt it? can i check the warranty status on the maxtor site or is it going to tell me its expired? and if so then how do i go about getting the warranty via the original sales reciept? ive never had to usa a reciept for an RMA on a dead hard drive.

Outside of EMEA, Maxtor branded retail hard drive kits and external hard drives will carry a Standard Warranty Period of 1 year with the exception of the Maxtor Personal Storage 3000LS drive, which has a Standard Warranty Period of 90 days.

If I need to RMA one of them will MAXTOR take a copy of my sales receipt.

well what do you know, i called em up and they said its at the date of purchase as long as you fax them your receipt
