WARNING: Don't pay more than $100 for 1GB of memory, no matter what type !
RAM Memory prices are falling, just like flash memory, and it's already reached below $100 for 1GB (or $50 for 512MB). Any "deal" which ends up costing more is actually trying to gouge before you realize how far memory prices been dropping, and you're sure to kick yourself in a couple of months (or less) when the new specials come in at $75 for 1GB. The high prices of the past were purely based on exploitation of surgung demand, it had nothing to do with production costs. That means the gougers were getting rich at your expense.

IS this jacka** still posting his bull in every memory thread ?

woulda thought he'd give up by now

hmmmm, will this deal be available online? online inventory shows OOS, but it's instock in every local store.

//krunk (^_^x)

This reminds me of the deal OD had a while back where you got this same drive for ~$21 after tax and instant rebates. Price is a bit higher, but still a good deal. What would make this sweet is if there was a pricematch possibility. Good find OP!

I got one from the OD deal. I am hoping this will show up one line, I don't have any close CompUSA's.

Got 5 this morning at the Chicago downtown CompUSSR. When I left they still have around 20 of these HD. Now I can try Raid 0+1....

I snagged two of these at the Altamonte Springs store here in the Orlando-central Fla. area. I think the display was empty by the time I got to the counter to pay for mine, I don't know if they had more somewhere else in the store or not.

Good luck!

I got 2 at the San Jose, Blossom Hill store. That had 27 more when I left about 1 hour ago. You have to ask though, they only have them in the back. And, the the online stock checker was wrong as it says out of stock, so call your local store or stop by, don't believe the online stock system.

For perspective, Sam's Club is selling Western Digital retail boxed 8mb cache drives which have recently dropped in price. The 160GB is running $79 and the 250GB is at $139. I find that WD runs cooler than Maxtor, so if you are putting them in external hard drive boxes, that may be a factor for you. Sam's Club is a USA-based warehouse shopping chain similar to Costco, but unlike Costco, Sam's is willing to stock computer components ranging from DDR memory to flash to external hard drives. User1234 may find ddr at Sam's to his liking.

Believe the allure of this particular deal is that the cost of $29.99 - while perhaps not the absolute best or most cost effective price - does not involve mail-in rebates of any kind.

There are those that frequent this site that do not care for mail-in rebates. I am not one of them, but I can understand their motivation.

If anyone cares, both drives inside the box were:

DiamondMax Plus 9
60GB ATA/133 HDD
6Y060L0

Which are FDB Motors, very quiet and cool.

Great deal for RAID at $30 + tax each out the door.

grab a network adapter, u need a modded ps2 to do what he did though

Everybody better get the TAP Warranty on it, it's 4.99 for one year and 7.49 for two. Unconditional product replacement! Especially since there's no rebates to get it into the 0 - 50 price range!!

Yes I used to work there and I know the benefits of it. PM if you have any questions!

PEACE

compusa also has the external 80gig hard drive for $100 out the door plus $50 rebate... pretty nifty thing to have if you need to do quick transfers of large data.
