Jason Dilaura seemed to understand the bit about honoring competitor's coupons. Excerpt from our conversation:

me: "You know it's your store's policy to accept any and all competitor's coupons."
Jason Dilaura: "Yes."
me: "But you won't sell me this for $80 minus $15."
Jason Dilaura: "No, I won't."

I'm going to try again tomorrow. If I don't get the drive for the correct price, then 1)I'm going to complain to OfficeMax HQ and 2)buy the drive this Sunday from Staples.

You went back and that's what he said? Well I think that you've proved him wrong and he's just to stubborn to give in at this point.

I have a question since were talking about Cendyne(Lite-on) cdrws. I got in on the 24x deal 2 months ago and still have no clue what the Lite-ons SMART-Burn Tech. is. I thought it chose the speed automatically for you yet i use Nero and if i choose 16x burn, it says its burning at 16x. The same goes for if i choose 24x,12x etc. It says burning at my selected speed. I am using Hp(TY's) 16x and they burn at 24x no prob but i just need some clrification the Technology.

Also what is the C-select jumper do? Thats what my burner is on and it is my E Drive.

ATTENTION:

To all that are sick of dealing with OM and trying to use the Staples coupon. Why not just wait to get it at Staples this weekend. Now, I realize there is some glory to be had in making the local OM manager bend over and accept that we are right, but the drive can be had for the same cost or less this weekend (6/30) at Staples.

482877 $89.99 with $50 mir

I'm sure there will be add-ons, like Free after rebate, that can get you to $100 so you can use the $20 off $100 coupon that's out there.
The $15 off $75 expires 6/29.

2 cents,
Farm

The most common way to screw up a burn is for the write buffer to become empty (buffer underrun) due to other computer activity or a slow reader (disk to disk). Old school burners made a coaster if they got a "buffer underrun" so smart-burn allows the laser to stop writing on the blank media, wait for the write buffer to fill up again, find the last spot on the blank media where it was writing and pick up where it left off. Thus eliminating the dreaded buffer underrun. It has nothing to do with the speed of the burn, but some media cannot write at the faster speeds of the new burners and get more frequent write errors.

C-select is "Cable Select" and that allows the IDE device (burner) to be designated Master or Slave depending which of the 2 IDE connectors is connected with that device. The end of the cable = Master I think...

I called my OM and they said they don't accept Staples coupons. She said, "No we don't, but we will probably match prices." ..doesn't sound like she is too sure :eek:/ Are you sure all OfficeMax stores will do this?

Also, are there any good deals at OfficeMax on 32x CD-R discs?

EDIT (more questions): What is Mt. Rainer format?

And has anyone had experience with the OptoRite CD-RW drive?

Went to OM, got an Optorite, the guy took the Staples coupon.

What firmware am I supposed to use with this Optorite?

Print out the page on the OfficeMax web site that says " In addition, OfficeMax.com will honor coupons from other office product superstores. Please call 1-800-283-7674 for complete details" and take that with you Link to page If the manager gives you more $hit ask him to write down his name and enployee number so you can use it when you call officemax HQ.

Or you can do what warmachine & JayRock did, called local store put CDRW on hold. Then called officemax.com placed order for pickup in store add some FAR items (if there are still some available) to bring order over $100 and use a $25 off coupon code.

And don't forget the Staples $19.99 32x CenDyne starting sunday. LINK

I had that page printed out. If he hadn't given me the 10 OM coupon then maybe I would have fought it. But over $5, I didn't think it was worth it.

Just to verify this: when sending in mail-in rebates, a print out of the online order confirmation/receipt is valid, right? Or do I send a copy of the pink Customer Delivery Receipt that came with the mailed package. Thanks...

Just got back from my local Staples....they had a couple left, but what confused me is that the for the drive model(the line right above the serial number on the label in the back of the box) it said 32X12X48 instead of like the optodrive CW3201 or something like that. I was wondering does anyone knows what it is? Liteon? Aopen? Verbatim? Mitsumi?????

Yes! It is the AOpen mfg drive, that's the only CenDyne drive that reads at "48x", it also has a 8MB buffer.

Even though my order was shown as cancelled, they charged the full amount on my credit card yesterday and today I received all the items. I got a Verbatim that I flashed to a Lite-On and it works great.

Anyone know of an easy way to get the writing off the front of the drive?

I just got in on this deal, but I did it differently.
I bundled it with the Logitech Z-340 speakers (on sale for $39.99) and then used OM's $25 off $100 coupon and Staples' $10 off $50 coupon.
So... $79.99 (burner) + $39.99 (speakers) = $119.98 - $25.00 (coupon) = $94.98 - $10.00 (coupon) = $84.98 (out-the-door) - $40.00 (MIR) = $44.98 total for both the burner and the speakers. Not bad, eh? I did this on my lunch break so I haven't had the chance to check the burner manfacturer.

Ok, I checked it out and it's an OptoRite model. It's that any good or should I take it back?

edit: DoH! read further, back to OM I go... good thing it's close. The beauty of this is that if they decide not to give me a Mitsumi or Lite-on, I tell them I just want my money back, the speakers only cost me $5 bucks(!) and I can get in on the Cendyne deal at Staples next week ;)

But couldn't they argue that it says OfficeMax.com, not just OfficeMax stores?

I just called and talked to the manager and told him about the website. He said that the website accepts competitors coupons but the actual store does not. Now what am I supposed to do?

Quick question here... I just called officemax.com, and placed an order for in-store pickup. The only hangup is that the operator said she couldn't apply the $25 off $100 coupon because it's online only, and the B&M will want to see a printout of the coupon (which obviously, doesn't exist). She did sound slightly hopeful that I might be able to sweet-talk the B&M into applying the coupon anyway. The question is: did I do something wrong? How'd you guys get them to apply the coupon? Any tips on twisting arms at the store tomorrow so's I can "ensure" that they'll apply the coupon? Thanks much...

/me salivates at the thought of a new, FASTER burner... :D
