Hello all,

I picked up this drive last month, at $99.99 + paper clips, then - 25, - 20 rebate. The drive I got was a Aopen. I was disapointed at first, and then I burnder a cd, ad it took me 9 minutes ! :-( Anyway, I realized that I didnt have DMA enabled. :) I enabled it, ad the last 2 CD's Iburnt both took, 3:59. and 4:03.... THATS FAST!! I love this drive. The buffer underrun protection, "Just Link" is great to.

good luck to everyone, this is great deal

since princeman said that it was in the February rebate booklet, and i looked at the old link (http://www.officemax.com/pdf/2002_01/Cendyne_1.pdf) and said eh what the hell, lemme try changing 2002_01 to 2002_02...

lo and behold

http://www.officemax.com/pdf/2002_02/Cendyne_1.pdf

IT WORKS!

i think this is it, looks like we're good to go :)
thanks to whoever posted this originally

EDIT: hmmm before i call up officemax (the nearest one is not near enough...), can someone tell me how they "coerced" the customer rep into accepting the coupon? the 25 off 100 says its only good for purchases from officemax.com. thanks

It has been previously discussed in this thread how to identify which drive it is you are buying. YMMV if you don't take the time to investigate the drive packaging before you buy one.

It wasn't that hard. I just explained that I saw it in the weekly flyer and it wan't on the website. All the cs wanted was the url (I did a google search and found one) where I got the coupon and that was it. I highly doubt he checked it. And thanks for the rebate link

I just called the OfficeMax.com to place the order. Done in 5 minutes. Very easy!!!

I called 800-283-7674. option 1. Then I told CSR I found the item on flyer, but can't find it at officemax.com, can I plac an order. She said yes. I gave her the item number, then said I want to apply a coupon. She asked the coupon code. I gave her the code. She asked me where did I get it, what is the URL. I said Officemax mailed to me in a post card. They did mailed me several post cards with coupon on it. If you are ableshoppers, you can find the code. :) It worked beautiful. My total is $101.xx.

MaDHaVoK....(3 out of 3 were Verbatim, Model VBT241040a any reviews on this?)

Verbatim is brand name of the free media that comes packaged with the CenDyne 24x drive. It's not a company that mfg CD-RW drives.

I got one that has Verbatim sticker on it too and with manufacture date of Dec 2001. Do your drives identify themselves as Verbatim in the computer boot up screen? What does the Lite-On label say the model is? I am too chicken to remove the label and am considering returning the drive.

The drive itself has a big sticker on identfying the drive as made by Verbatim. On computer boot up, the computer also identify the drive as a Verbatim! It is not just the media enclosed.

Madhavock reported that after lifting off the verbatim sticker the drive was indeed a re-badged Lite-on... look previously in this thread.

Yes! Below the Verbatim sticker is a lite-on sticker with model #LTR-24102B....
I got 3 of these....

Problem, tried instaliing one, and it keeps ejecting even with a cd in or no cd, i close it, it opens!
Any ideas about that? I will try one of my other drives tomorrow..

Secondly can i put the lite-on firmware on this drive?????

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

It could be "autoplay" if the cd is in the drive. I have no idea why the tray would open when there are no cd inside.
Which Windows are you using? I think windows can issue command to the drive to eject just like the button on the faceplate.

By the sound of it, the firmware on your drive also says Verbatim.

My drive seem to hang up a bit in the middle of opening the tray. :(

That a been a problem with computers with Abit mainboards and Lite-on CD-RW drives you read more about it on this Lite-on forum at CD Freaks.com.

According to a number of post on the Lite-on forum, yes you can use Lite-on firmware on a rebadged Lite-on drive, just be sure it is a Lite-on drive.

If I call Office Max to try to get one of these drives, where can I find the actual coupon code? ... not just a link that submits the code

I don't believe that there is a coupon code... only a link... retailers are going that way to avoid fraud... buy.com does it the same way.
