How do you take rainchecks?
I don't have the dough or the need for a combination, but I'm just a little interested.

I've got an Epox 8KHA+ MB that I'm going to use...give my brother the ECS and my 1800+.

Will the 2400+ be even worth it to use on my board (will I be able to squeeze out all that potential power?)? I'm still thinking the 2000+ is more usable in my case. I only have PC2100.

It would be much faster to have it overclocked to at least a 333mhz fsb with two sticks of my pc2700, but the 2400+ multiplier is too high for the ecs board to achieve a 333mhz fsb.
I'm interested in having "ashia" pick one up for me, but can someone explain this to me like I'm a child, 'cause I didnt fully understand it. I'm looking to get the combo to upgrade my parents P3-450. I would give the 2400+ to my brother and his current 1600+ to my parents. How big of a deal is it that it doesnt run a 333mhz FSB? I know my Dell 4550 can, but I have PC2100 in it right now, so I dunno the difference. Is it better to hold out for a MB that runs 333? It just seems like the price is too good to pass up.

Also a second question I have:
the P3-450 is in a mid-tower ATX case right now. Could I just put the 1600+ in there, or will I need to buy a new case & power supply? I ask because it may make the upgrade more costly than waiting for a nice Dell deal (like I got for my 4550 last October). Thanx in advance.

Not that big of a deal. Your brother will not be able to tell the difference if it runs at 266mhz FSB vs. 333mhz FSB. You will be better off getting an AMD approved power supply in the mid-tower ATX case, just to avoid problems.

LMK soon, I am heading to Fry's in a few hours....

Picked one up for a friend. Gonna upgrade his 1.0 T-bird and K7S5A. Anyway, looks like he got a high end chip: axda2400dkv3c 4142426270216 aiuhb0247mpm
Maybe I can get away with not reinstalling windows..

 Just an FYI for those of us who don't live in California, Outpost.com which has either owend by Fry's or Fry's has a partnership with them has AMD Athlon® XP1800+ Thoroughbred Bare CPU W/ ECS K7S5A Pro Motherboard for a $119 plus shipping. Not as fast as the XP 2400 but still a pretty good deal.

Here is the link:

Kehi - I think Fry's will to telephone sales out of their Sunnyvale CA store only . Call the # on the LA times ad for info . It would be nice if the Fry's Outpost.com division was would mirror the like items at the Fry's B&M stores .

I must say, i have pricing from some of the cheaper distributors around, and my cost is still:
AMD 2400 OEM = $97
ECS k7s5a = $47
and that doesn't include shipping...and that is cost!
then again the retail CPU is only $7 more
so...i would say this deal is at least WARM

Hey, which one is better: the 2400+ deal ($119) or 2200+ ($99) deal?

I am seriously thinking about buying one of them....
