How do you take rainchecks?
I don't have the dough or the need for a combination, but I'm just a little interested.

I've got an Epox 8KHA+ MB that I'm going to use...give my brother the ECS and my 1800+.

Will the 2400+ be even worth it to use on my board (will I be able to squeeze out all that potential power?)? I'm still thinking the 2000+ is more usable in my case. I only have PC2100.

the P3-450 is in a mid-tower ATX case right now. Could I just put the 1600+ in there, or will I need to buy a new case & power supply? I ask because it may make the upgrade more costly than waiting for a nice Dell deal (like I got for my 4550 last October). Thanx in advance.

Not that big of a deal. Your brother will not be able to tell the difference if it runs at 266mhz FSB vs. 333mhz FSB. You will be better off getting an AMD approved power supply in the mid-tower ATX case, just to avoid problems.

Just an FYI for those of us who don't live in California, Outpost.com which has either owend by Fry's or Fry's has a partnership with them has AMD Athlon® XP1800+ Thoroughbred Bare CPU W/ ECS K7S5A Pro Motherboard for a $119 plus shipping. Not as fast as the XP 2400 but still a pretty good deal.

Kehi - I think Fry's will to telephone sales out of their Sunnyvale CA store only . Call the # on the LA times ad for info . It would be nice if the Fry's Outpost.com division was would mirror the like items at the Fry's B&M stores .

I must say, i have pricing from some of the cheaper distributors around, and my cost is still:
AMD 2400 OEM = $97
ECS k7s5a = $47
and that doesn't include shipping...and that is cost!
then again the retail CPU is only $7 more
so...i would say this deal is at least WARM

well, I just overclock this 2400+ to 2800+ (2250mhz) and it's super stable, been encode divx for about 2 hours ,, the temp is around 45C° with the Coolmaster x-dream ($12).

i will be installing this setup soon, to oc the chip w/ the mobo, are u using the cheepo bios? also are u just increasing the fsb? or adjusting the multipliers as well?
