I was at the fremont frys today, they had a cart of new ecs k7s5a pro boards. But i decided not to get one, cause in the short run i would need a new motherboard for more memory bandwith and higher fsb overclocking. It would be much faster to have it overclocked to at least a 333mhz fsb with two sticks of my pc2700, but the 2400+ multiplier is too high for the ecs board to achieve a 333mhz fsb.
I'm interested in having "ashia" pick one up for me, but can someone explain this to me like I'm a child, 'cause I didnt fully understand it. I'm looking to get the combo to upgrade my parents P3-450. I would give the 2400+ to my brother and his current 1600+ to my parents. How big of a deal is it that it doesnt run a 333mhz FSB? I know my Dell 4550 can, but I have PC2100 in it right now, so I dunno the difference. Is it better to hold out for a MB that runs 333? It just seems like the price is too good to pass up.
Also a second question I have:
the P3-450 is in a mid-tower ATX case right now. Could I just put the 1600+ in there, or will I need to buy a new case & power supply? I ask because it may make the upgrade more costly than waiting for a nice Dell deal (like I got for my 4550 last October). Thanx in advance.
