*Dead* - ATI TV Wonder HDTV Tuner - $19.99

I've had a 650 PCI for a 1.5 years. It doesn't do Clear Qam - the PCIe does.
One of the Woot staff posted in their forums that the current revision of the 650PCI can do ClearQ.

We are confirming with the manufacturer now but the specs sheets sent to us directly from the manufacturer list both the PCI and the PCIe versions as having QAM. My guess is that older versions found on some links posted here did not have QAM but newer versions did.

edit: We have confirmation from the manufacturer that both the TVW600PCIE and TVW650PCI have Clear QAM support.

Well I just bought one of the PCI's. I've been using boxee though and I think I'm going to find myself being annoyed using boxee for divx and WMC for recorded tv.

Just canceled since it's actually a software encoder, not a hardware. One of the staffers just posted the following:

Updates:

I'm consolidating multiple updates here to help clear up some issues with this sale:

The cards are ATI made by Diamond. ATI no longer makes cards, they make the technology, market the product lines and license the technology to other companies.

The models for sale are the TVW600PCIE for PCI-e and TVW650PCI for PCI.

The cards are new stock and were OEM (bare) cards that the manufacturer packaged specifically for us.

Both cards feature QAM support.

Neither card comes with the remote, it ships with a software/driver CD.

Both cards feature software MPEG-2 compression.

The 600PCIE has S-Video, Stereo audio and Composite video inputs on the card.

The 650PCI requires a dongle for S-Video, Stereo audio and Composite video inputs. You can contact Diamond and let them know that you purchased the card from us and they will send the dongle to you.

Everyone that purchased the PCI card will receive an email from service@woot in the morning detailing this information and giving you the option of canceling your order if you dont want to contact Diamond for the A/V dongle or you purchased the card wanting the hardware MPEG2 compression that we incorrectly listed.

Getting PCI unavalable now. Only PCI-e left.

edit: from the woot forums

Tried to buy the 650 PCI and it wouldn't allow the choice. Guess they must be sold out.

Oh, let me go out on a limb here and say you'll get another crack at it....soon.

One tip, do not install the Catalyst Media Center, it is garbage. Use Windows media center

I would say the opposite. Catalyst Media Center only tunes to the channels that are available to recieve. MCE tunes every channel that they have available on your channel guide. Which means that you spend forever surfing in an endless series of channels that don't even come in at all, just to find one that does. It's totally useless.

Yes I saw that. It was the first versions of the 650 PCI (like mine) that didn't do clearQOM. The first versions of the dual tuner 650 PCIe that were first to have clearQOM.

When I saw this offering I wasn't sure to trust it or not because the older non QOM cards show up cheap all the time. Woot also didn't mention the remote which my 650 did not come with although the later ones do.

I almost bought a 600 PCIe off woot thinking it was the 650. These cards can be a real PITA to nail down.

According to ati's site it says the 650 is hardware mpeg2.

"ersonal Video Recorder
PVRWatch, pause live TV, or schedule and record your TV programs for later viewing, whether standard analog TV or “free-to-air” HDTV1 programming. Hardware MPEG-2 compression technology offloads work from your CPU and produces a high quality capture that can easily be transferred to DVD. The Electronic Programming Guide6 (EPG) makes it a breeze to find and schedule recordings of your favorite TV programs or search for other programs by channel and genre."

Anyone want to comment?

N/M

The 650 is out of stock anyway🙁

I'm using a PCIe 1x HD650 w/ Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Windows will find the appropriate drivers for it using Windows / Microsoft Update.

I have it working perfectly w/ BeyondTV by Snapstream and am able to tune into all of my provider's QAM channels.

As was already posted, woot screwed up big time, this is a TVW650PCIV card. It does NOT have hardware MPEG2 encoding.

They changed the description on the front page, and they also said they will send out e-mails about the error in the morning, so people can cancel if they want.

You haven't done enough with WMC if it tunes all channels. When you scan for channels, it automatically deactivates the ones that don't come in. In fact, when viewing ATSC that is considered a negative, because sometimes the threshold for what you would consider viewable is less than what the program considers acceptable.

On ATI's website, the only difference between the 600 and the 650 is that the 650 has hardware accelerated mpeg2 encoding, a few analog quality enhancement features, and fm radio.
No, I think woot's just getting confused over their own confusion here. It has the hardware mpeg2 encoding, I think diamond's website just fails to state it.

1. Diamond's website also doesn't say it has svideo or composite input, which woot says is possible with a breakout box.
2. The hardware between the tvw650pci and the tvw650pciv seem to be the same, just one comes with a remote.
3. If we're to take Diamond's website at face value, the tvw650pciv, despite being a higher model number, is less featured than the tvw600pci.

For one thing, AMD/ATI's site don't list OEM hardware, so we can't really tell what they (Diamond) ordered from ATI. I really doubt that Diamond would list the tvw650pciV specs incorrectly though. I am guessing it is a custom build job.

In any case, IMO, it isn't worth the hassle of trying to get rid of it, if everyone is getting the tvw650pciV instead of the tvw650pci.
All woot would have to do is look at the box, and tell us the UPC code...but they are running around without a clue.

farq, why didn't I check the forums last night?
Well I guess I will be buying a LCD TV soon and won't need this anyway 😛

I think Woot was confused about the original product ID. But I think they've since been pretty clear about the 650 model they were selling being: http://www.diamondmm.com/TVW650PCIV.php

That's a 650 without hardware mpeg2.

I canceled my order.

I think it's just a poor copy-paste job on diamond's part. The 650 listed there has inferior specs to the 600 for one.
Two, the title of that page is TVW600PCI.
Three, they link to a spec sheet for the TVW650PCIV which does list hardware mpeg2 encoding.
