In store only, limit of 1. I got an email with this, but its not advertised on their site right now. Not sure if it will be. Obviously clearing stock for Ivy.

Sorry I'm not more help lol I have no links to provide, and I'm on my phone, but here's a screenshot of the email ;)

Just as a refresher, is there any special stepping to look for with these?

Nope. My understanding is that "D2" is the only stepping on these. IntelEnthusiast will likely chime in if I'm wrong though :D

That said, there are rumors that certain batches overclock better than others. Word on the street is that "C" batches are better than "B" batches. What you're looking for is the 8-character batch number on the Intel sticker on the box, for example: L0##B### is a "B" batch, while L0##C### is a "C" batch. I've seen "A" batches as well. If the rumors are to be believed, you want "C."

See, e.g., http://hwbot.org/forum/showthread.php?t=16541

That's a pretty hot deal for the processor, but with SB coming out in a couple of weeks, unless you really need something immediately I'd hang tight and get a IB.

Don't forget to bundle the ASUS $115 Z68 board if you need one (or don't? flip it?), it still has the $50 bundle discount.

Given that the equivalent IVB is going to cost at least $100 more and likely OC worse (looks like high temps are spoiling OC's for most trying the chips now) and only be very marginally faster per mhz, waiting may not be a good idea in this particular case.

I ordered mine for instore pickup/pay on pickup. If you do that, you have three calendar days to "wait and see" which cost you nothing.

I am building a new PC for my son who is a big gamer and it was recommended I get the Core i5-2500k, but that was before this new deal. I want something that should serve him well for the next 18-24 months. The lowest combo for the Core i5-2500k, is around $235 at MC and I am not sure what this will be. His next piece will be a good video card which is budgeted for under $200.

What are your thoughts on spending at least $20 more for this CPU plus whatever more for a combo MD deal as compared to the $230 - $260 for the Core i5 deal ???

Thanks in advance.

No hesitation, I would spend the extra coin.

Those extra four threads are only going to get more and more helpful.

@ Ken, what is the second board? Does it happen to be mATX? That would be pretty epic (for me...)

I haven't been able to find it by adding random boards to my cart....

Also can the ASUS Z68 board overclock? If u can't go straight to 4.5 or 4.8 Ghz then you'd better get a real board.

I thought the LX version of the ASUS boards were duds. I'd go for the Gigabyte Z68 myself. Too bad the ASRock one won't play nice with the $50 off or it would be the clear winner.

The reviews are better for the ASUS and one review says it was able to oc. The Gigabyte is another $50+ so I am looking for a MB that is less...

Again, its been nearly two years since I built one and have to depend on my friends here for input. Your thoughts on a good MB at a "fair" price is appreciated!
