Nifty trick: Have a friend/relative in another zip code/state? Check the inventory under their Zip. You'll have to get them to buy it for you, but you can still have the "ship to" address as yours. The rebate can then go to either address as they both show up on the invoice. I've done this several times.

Thanks for showing your intellegence(or lack there of), they are the same, both are $30 rebates, one is a maxtor, the other is staples and you can only use one(and it is ymmv on getting both rebates). If I said they were exactly the same then I would have understood the thread crapping, now I see why you have such a low user rating.
btw, I too ordered one and will be trying both coupons, but am only expecting to get one or the other.
I can't blame the guy. A lot of you (hot deal people) can't read. Did you not see the multiple posts about both being valid? Last hard drive deal I got was for a maxtor 60 gig with three rebates and all three came, bringing my total cost (including tax) to $5, that's right, five dollars. People think they're so intelligent pointing out that the rebates go to the same address/P.O. box...
Not to mention the fact that several have e-mailed Staples CS and have received confirmation that they both are valid. I did the same just to have a valid e-mail to send with the rebate "just in case"
I'm not trying to be a "hothead" I was mearly pointing out the not everyone gets so lucky with multiple rebates (yes I saw the posts about them being supposedly valid). I've had 4 deals that I've tried that had multiple reabates(all were supposedly valid), and only one panned out, now I'm going for try number 5. I just don't understand all the name calling(and swearing for that matter) in a forum full of professionals, it always seems so childish.

Staples CSR told me today that packing slip instead of reciept is fine.
Also verified that Socal is buying a shi, er a lot these drives and mine will indeed take until 5/20 to arrive, with a purchase date of 5/14.
Two points not yet discussed that look curious are;
This drive only has a ONE year warranty instead of Maxtor usual 3 year.
Drive uses some new kind of quieter FLUID bearing.
Some good, some bad I guess.

Confirmed in Jacksonville, NC. I picked up a HD, i may got back for a second. They had lots instock!
Both maxtor and WD switched to 1 year warranties a few months ago, except on certain drives like WD's "special edition" drives. Fluid dynamic bearings have been around a while...

Got my drive today....1 year warranty! So I called a couple of Staple's near me and found a 3 year warranty drive and exchanged it!!

Regarding exchanging for the 3 year warranty, I think you traded down the technology ladder. 80G drives that have/had the 3 year warranty are/were assembled with 40G platters and had 2Meg caches in the 740DX category. I got one of the last 3 year warranties with fluid bearing and it was April 2002. Shortly thereafter, all Maxtor drives went to 1 year warranties.
The current drive in this deal isn't even designated on the Maxtor site by model number but is thought to be the newest 6Y series or the Ultra 9 that they have on the site. They were supposed to come with 80 G platters (although Maxtor hasn't been able to get 80 G yields consistently...probably too much coughing in SARS assaulted Taiwan), so they've been using 60-68Meg platters and then just limiting areas on the second platter.
From what I know, there's no clear way to tell, now, if you have a single platter 80G or a dual platter comprised of less than 80G yield platters.
And, according to reviews, there is no such thing as a 3 year warranted 80G/8M drive. There should be a 120G/8M that will be produced in the future that will badge with a 3yr warranty.

I think it's just that WD's are slow unless you get the SE's. I have a WD 30gig 7200 2MB and a Maxtor 30gig 7200 2MB and the maxtor has a sustained transfer rate 15MB/s higher than the WD, and it doesn't decrease as much across the length of the drive.
