I bought one on-line and got a Teac. I later picked up a LiteOn at the B&M so I'd have a choice. I decided to keep the Teac because of how quiet it is and it seems very well built plus can use any Teac firmware updates. I know many prefer the LiteOn, so if anyone wants one and can't find it in the Phoenix Area, you can PM me before I return it tomorrow. FWIW: I never opened it.

I read the rebate for OM and it says only if purchased @ Office Max. That said, is there any rebate for these drives that isn't tied to Office Max? Costco lowered the price to $89 and they have the Lite-On version based on my initial research. It'd be a good deal if I can grab it and get a $40 rebate through Cendyne.

The InCD software that comes with the drive already lets you use a cd-rw like a hard drive or floppy drive. You can open Explorer and drag and drop files to the cd-rw disk rather than using your burning software. What's so special about Mt. Rainier?

Dman666, Which area are you in ? I saw this drive in Costco last week for $99, but it is possible that it has been lowered in price since then. What general part of the country are you in, or better yet which Costco did you see it in ? I would prefer to buy it at Costco, if at all workable. Thanks.

I was at a Costco's in S.FL. The sticker on each box was still marked @ $99, but, there was a sign in front that had the Cendyne 24x Cd-R was $89.9x (No rebates). So, not sure what it'd ring up at the register but I assume $89.

Just FYI for future deals, the one I got has a 12 digit serial number starting with 257148xxxxxx, and the drive inside the box says "LITE-ON LTR24102B". :)

That Verbatim CD-RW you returned was a rebadged Lite-on drive.

Cendyne = REBATE HELL!!!! They refused my serial #...Called OM and complained, still no resolution....I'm beginning to understand why some posters won't buy anything with a rebate....I could've gotten the lite-on from NEWEGG with no hassles.

thank god i went with staples deal (24x BTC burner for same price).
the burner burns everything in 4mins with less then 10% cpu usage max. also staples has this thing where u can register with their rebate center online, and it says the received it and approved it and now its going thru processing... whew~~

good thing, since it was $30 on cdrw and i also sent in $70 rebate for 17" monitor.

me likes staples rebate! they actually do give rebates!

A number of people received post cards saying they had send in the wrong serial number, there seem be be some mix up about which serial number (the one on the box or the one on the drive) was suppose to be send in with the rebate. So, if you call the 800 number on the post card and give them the correct serial number that should fix the problem.

You should be able to check your rebate status at rebateHQ.com

OfficeMax and Staples use the same company to process their rebates. Also you're the only person who hasn't said that the BTC mfg drive is a POS.

tarfu

Great find on the verbatim drive firmware update, if it works, a lots of people own you one.

I have sent my rebate for a couple of weeks now, still not listed on RebatesHQ. Should I call them?

I upgraded my Verbatim firmware successfully to 5S57 according to link above and tried to burn a few disks. It works quite well as a Liteon. Thanks a lot, Tarfu. Great find.
