19" LCDs should have a native resolution of 1600x1200 - 1280x1024 should be fine for users that don't want to stress the display, though.

I've never heard of 19" LCD running at 1600x1200, that would be ridiculously small, I doubt any are capable of it.

15ms response? Haven't seen that before, if I had to guess, I'd say typo...25ms response. It would be nice if it were a 16ms typo but that would be tooo wishful.

Does 500:1 contrast ratio look too weak? Anyone with a monitor with that contrast ration care to comment?

It this "Balance" brand is anything like the Balance laptops that Walmart also sells, then these LCDs would be from ECS? Anyone know if this is the case, and/or what OEM panel they are actually using? TIA. Warranty is a weird 13 months.

EDIT: Well, no mention of LCDs on any of the ECS sites. Doesn't necessarily mean anything though. The 17" is only $228 and seems to have more typical specs. No mention of DVI though.

So anyone going to bite?

Im debating wether or not i should. I wonder if you can take it back to a store if i dont like. Im not a huge gamer but i need a new monitor to go with my new setup. Only thing i dont like is the resolution on lcds im so used to running 16x12 that i dont know if its worth going lcd.

Wow, this seems good. Hmmm, I might bite is someone can confirm that the strange "15ms" response time is correct.

My Dell 1704FPV has a 1000:1 ratio and it's too bright :). I set it to 50% and it's a little brighter than my Trinitron CRT.

I'm amused when people begin to compare specs on LCD monitors. They don't mean squat. Half of the manufactures inflate the actual values by virtue of the ambiguity of the test specifications, and the other half under state the values for some unknown reason. To top it off, when PC World did their own testing they found the actual tested values did not correlate with image quality. The proof is in the image. Line them all up connected to a splitter running something like Noika Screen tester ftp://ftp.fluidlight.com/pub/nospin_files/Nokia.zip , make sure they are in native resolution, fine tune them first (very important), then put on your glasses and compare. For what it is worth CompUSA and CircuitCity both had no problem letting me run the Nokia test off a CD I brought into the stores. BestBuy was totally useless; all of their monitors run only off a satellite feed showing BestBuy advertisements.

I'm guessing it's a 15ms rise + 10ms fall time.

Here's the non-affiliated link:

Are response time measurement usually rise + fall? So this one is really a 25ms response time, relative to the measurement method used by most stats?

Does anyone know what brand this really is? Someone said KDS, is that true?

Does anyone know if this is a real 19", with 19" viewable, not a 18" viewable?

Are those speakers in the frame?

Thanks1

HOLY CRAP, get it, return it if it's no good.
There surely is a walmart in your local neck of the woods.
They will take anything back, keep box and receipt.

I would be all over this if I hadn't just gotten a 17" lcd recently.
Remember, dead pixels, return it to local store.

Scr*w Wal-Mart. They've scr*wed us.

More than likely 15ms rise time with 10ms fall time (or visa versa).

Correct, the correct way to quote is total average response time, which is the rise time plus the fall time. This one should probably be 25ms.

It's a full 19" viewable. All LCD monitors are quoted with viewable diagonal. Speakers are in the frame.

In browsing throu Walmart, they have always carried KDS brand CRTs, so I'd assume this could very well be a KDS unit. I see no mention on the warranty on it tho ...

You have to look for additional details and follow the link to the warranty ... it is 13 months, but you can buy a 2 year extended for less than $30, or 3 year for something like $59.

I doubt that it is a KDS since they also sell that brand ... the price of the 17" KDS is about the same and it comes with 3 year advance exchange warranty. I am getting the Balance 19" and trying it and will probably exchange it for the KDS if I do not like it.
