Still not seeing why cloud storage isn't a valid service though.

I have my pictures on my PC and backed up on a home server.
I also have them on googles servers.

And the problem is?

No problem, as long as you don't care if google suddenly makes your data disappear, or shares it without your approval. I suppose I should have said "important data" not just any data.

How are they going to make the stuff on my home server disappear?

If they delete the stuff in the cloud then I guess I'd be in the same situation as you.

You have a home server. I'm talking about the "who needs local storage when it's the 21st century?" crowd.

Local storage is great until you get burgled or have a house fire.

True. And a person smart enough to see the pitfalls of cloud storage would probably be smart enough to have physical storage in multiple places, and with encryption thrown in for good measure.

Gonna be easier to just use cloud services there though.

Who's going to set up multiple off site servers for family photos?

No-one sees it as ironic that a kiddie-porn-wielding priest would use cloud storage? You know, look up at the *heavens*?

Depends how much you value the security and integrity of your data. Some people prefer the easy route. Others prefer the more robust route.

So hard not stereotype those in the catholic priesthood when stories like these pop up.

I have no issue insulting religions that contribute to the abuse of people until they fix things like this.

Verizon noticed the content

The night shift tech support people probably go through people's cloud stuff to see what kind of interesting stuff they can find. Seriously though folks, they were probably working on a legitimate problem and came across the pics and by law have to report it to police.

agreed. anyone stupid enough to do such a thing deserves it.

the sad part is people think things like the cloud are PRIVATE. sorry no they are not. do not store anything illegal on it.
