My memory defaults to 2.6V.Its OCZ PC3700 EL.I'll have to double check if the memory needs that or my mobo defaulting to 2.6V.:Q

my mobo only has voltge from 2.6v-2.8v ...not the "default" 2.5v ddr uses lol
2.7v is aight afaik unless you have it in a VERY hot system and no cooling/ventilation....then dont up vdimm at all lol

Thanks peeps

Ok so you dont need more than 2.5V to run 200mhz mem speed.

Thanks for the tip Thugs, i wont go beyond 2.6V again(minimum for my A7N8X)

I was trying to push my el cheepo PC2700 to 190mhz but even with 2.8V it would fail prime after 2h or so. Guess ill have to order that Twinx PC3200 and get it done with :)

if your minimum vdimm is 2.6v thats ok ~ nothing you can do about that :)

sheesh... that's a lil rough!!!

how about using 2.7v to run 218? is that okay?

I suppose that Corsair XMS is garbage since it is acceptable and covered under warranty to run 2.8V. :p

adding vdimm hurts performance.
its better to be able to run on 2.5v/2.6v as it will have better performance then running on 2.8v.

feel free to test that ;)

(run a stable speed on 2.5v and benchmark, then set the vdimm to 2.7v and watch performance drop)

Why would increasing your vdimm decrease performance? I'm not disbeliving but it seems strange and to know why would be interesting.

My sentiments exactly... I just tried it, launced HardOCP's UT2K3 benchmark, and had a .7 FPS difference at most. That difference could happen at 2 trials of the same voltage. I then launched SiSoft Sandra, and the difference was 7pts, which BTW, the higher end was with the VDIMM at 2.8v. I then launched SuperPI, and the results were the same! So unless THUGSROOK or LastRide can show me something drastic...

BIOS Settings are 2.85V and 2.65V (Winbond HW Doctor shows 2.8V and 2.6V)

AIDA32 3.40 Memory Benchmark

512MB PC2700 Kingston Value RAM @ 2.8v
ABIT BH7

MHz = 3500
FSB = 184
MEM = 461MHz
CAS = 2-3-3-6

> read = 3366
> write = 1009

512MB PC2700 Kingston Value RAM @ 2.6v
ABIT BH7

MHz = 3500
FSB = 184
MEM = 461MHz
CAS = 2-3-3-6

> write = 1011

im not saying its an absolute ~ im saying its worth testing.

in my experience lower voltages = better performance (assuming its stable)
same goes for vcore and vagp
is it drastic? not really, in some cases yes in some cases no. but its part of the tuning process. well, my tuning process anyways.

Technonut ~ is your system 100% stable using only 2.6v @ 461ddr? :Q

I wish.. ;) Just enough to fool around with Sandra and AIDA.. :lips: :)

EDIT: It takes 2.8V to be MemTest Stable @ 461MHz.

I have to run 2.8v right now. I have (2) 512 meg sticks of XMS3200C2 on an 845PE board @ DDR425. I get stability issues at a lower Vdimm. Once I go DC DDR, I should be able to run 2.5 - 2.6 due to the lower DDR speed.
