The Northwest Airlines notorious skyjacking saga that has baffled authorities for 40 years may have finally been solved.

An Oregon woman who claims her uncle was the elusive criminal known only as DB Cooper says she has been told by the FBI that her evidence is enough for them to close the file on the case.

Burdened by guilt over her knowledge surrounding the case, Marla Cooper came forward earlier this year, claiming she had a 40-year-old family secret protecting her uncle, a man named Lynn Doyle Cooper.

The flight manifesto had his name listed as 'D. Cooper' and an investigator erroneously gave the suspects name as D.B. Cooper in an interview right after the hijacking. Saw this on a show on either History or Nat Geo that dealt with the details on the event.

Brad Meltzer's "Decoded" on History Channel had one episode (Season 1 Episode 6) about the D. B. Cooper case. They showed the Northwest Orient carbon copy of the flight coupon as having "Dan Cooper" written in by (unknown).

That episode pretty much concluded that "Ken Christianson" was most likely the real name of the hijacker. Based on an unexplained sudden increase in the suspect's bank account.
Guess they were wrong?

I think what happened here is that this guy pulled it off, but ended up with a lot less money than he thought, like the feds didn't give him a full case of money, or the case fell during the parachuting and ended up scattered over teh wilderness. (there have been a couple caches of "the money" found and brought forward over the years. So this guy just goes home like nothing happened, then lays realllly low. Also Lynn Doyle Cooper is now dead if I recall. Convenient eh?

I think it would make more sense for the FBI to stop pursuing cases after 15 years unless there is some sort of extenuating circumstance.

Of course you couldn't give an outright date of FBI not giving a shit, because then you'd have a bunch of cases that show "how to get away with it". For all we know the FBI internally has a date at which they stop bothering, and they merely make an appearance publicly so people assume that major crimes are NEVER closed.

The "how to get away with it" wouldn't work. It seems that it takes dumb luck to pull off a major crime these days with the amount of physical evidence that they can discover.
