betting is a time honored way of testing peoples beliefs. 🙂

i believe NJ has a better than 30:1 odds that they will beat the Spurs, who at this point, being up by 5 points with 14 secs left, and will go up 3-1 with 2 home games left are most likely to win.

apparently some people claim they believe NJ has NO (zero) chance of beating them, but won't back it up with money.

No because he made this a playoff team when before it was horrible. It is not entirely his fault Dallas lacks inside presence on the defensive and offensive ends. The Mavs have proved they are a playoff quality team, but they need to take that next step. A good offseason could put them in the drivers seat next season. Besides, who would you hire to replace him?

I think Dallas should replace Don Nelson with Lenny Wilkins?

I think Lenny might be past his prime. Dunno.

Do you think Mavs should fire Don Nelson if Dallas loses today's game and the next? This guy has all the talent he needs and still can't win.

I think they focus too much on getting offensive players. they even got rid of greg buckner, who was turning into an excellent defender.

Well doesn't look like Dallas' D stuck with it. SPURS WIN!!!

ya, mavs hectic offense took it out of them.

everyone figured it would be tough for them without nowitzki.

Spurs versus Nets in the finals.

Boring or a good matchup?

Spurs are slow paced while Nets play on the fast break.

I have a feeling Nets will beat them in 7.

The next game is going to be completely awesome i bet!

Dirk will be back and Dallas is going to be playing like it's their last game of the season 😛

I wouldn't be surprised if Dallas won... all depends on how the Spurs play in the 4th.

nets have beaten Spurs 3 of last 4 games. they split this season and Nets Swept last season.

to think that NJ is a walkover for the spurs is just ignorant.

edit

Btw, coldcut i wasn't referring to you but to all those that are completely dismissing NJ.

Hmmm...well here's my two cents on if the Spurs do meet the Nets in the Finals:

Nets have won 10 straight playoff games
The Spurs knocked out the 3 time defending champions.
(If they go on to the Finals)They beat perhaps one of the most potent teams in the NBA
Nets thrive on offense
SA is known mainly for defense.
People are saying that Nets split the season series 1-1, but I'm willing to bet that the game that SA lost was before the All-Star break, which is when SA began tearing it up

I think the key for the Nets is to have their role players make their jumpshots. It seems like the Nets are good at pounding it inside the key and good interior passing, but the SA defense will make it very difficult, especially with the Admiral and Duncan down low. On the other hand, who is going to guard Duncan? It doesn't seem like the Nets have as many big men as the Mavs, and if they double team him, then you had better hope that their role players don't hit outside shots.

And something else to think about...The Mavs are another offensive team and are kinda like the Nets...but in my opinion have a lot better outside shooting...and they are getting handled by the Spurs.

With all that said, I think it will be pretty tough for the Nets, but there's no way you can count them out for sure

sorry, Nets are NOTHING like Dallas. Nets are WAYYY more athletic and they are longer.

Big men, NJ will D Duncan with Collins, Williams, K Mart and probably some Deke also.

Kidd runs a fast break WAY better than anyone dallas has. Jefferson, Kittles and K Mart run on the fast break better than any 3 players on any other NBA Team. Collins and Williams are WAY underrated.

also NJ Defense is underrated too. they have one of the best D's in the game.

Duncan can score, they don't have to totally stop him, give him his 20 or 30 points and as long as no one else for Spurs get off and NJ has a chance.

😀 Never say never guys. Just look at the Ducks! :Q

HEY, the devils haven't lost YET. 🙂

No, i know, i'm just talking about the ducks making it as far as they did. (who know's if they'll actually win the cup) Everyone doubted them like crazy and they surprised the heck out of everyone. I mean who would have predicted the Ducks making the Stanley cup finals? lol

Kidd will own Parker, that's for sure.

probably

but this really will be a matchup of 2 superstars. Both teams really have one superstar each and some very very good role players.

Kidd is superstar, Kmart, Jefferson, Kittles, Williams, Collins all good role players.

Duncan Superstar, Rose, Jackson, Parker, Ginobli all good role players.

None of the role players for both teams in my opinion qualify as Superstars yet.

Not many NBA teams have won with only 1 superstar. The only one in recent memory that I can remember is Houston Rockets.

You know what they say; Defense wins it!

But wait a second, i'm confused, didn't NJ beat Detroit? A defensive team?

I think the lean goes towards San Antonio, but anything can happen. Look at the poor Lakers.

Another thing, what happened to Mutombo? He was one of the big centers in the league before he joined NJ. Is he that bad now or does he just not fit into NJ's gameplay? He was the big shot blocker and would give other center's a hard time with his D. Now he's a bencher who doesn't even play.

mutombo was out most of the season with an injury. he came back about 2 weeks before the end of the season, but they just never found a time to get him back in.

he hasn't really practiced enough with the team to get really integrated, especially on the offensive end.

why the hell would he play.. if he's not really necessary ?
They had collins who was playing really well.
Would you replace Collins and put in Mutumbo as a coach if you didn't need him ?

edit you're a smack talker about the Nets and the Devils..

care to make a wager ?
