So I saw this DayZ tourney today which was pretty interesting. It was 16 teams of 2, on the map Tavania. There are objectives which forced the teams to certain areas on the map. It went in three stages, eventually forcing everyone to a specific town.
There are game referees and they kinda attack players which are either camping or outside the game boundaries. They dont try to kill the players, but the zombie agro and gunfire alerts others to where they are and it generally gets them moving. The gamemaster also broadcasts text saying AI (referees) going here to do this or that, and its usually because the referees are trying to herd campers to where they are supposed to be. Or just a way for players to ambush the AI and get weapons and supplies. Active players could use this as an opportunity to ambush other players. Large sections of the map are firebombed, so if you dont move to the next stage you are dead. This is all within the narrative of survivors trying to escape a government containment protocol.
