Inventory commands... It appears NOTto be user friendly. I finally get "G" is for gear and the enter key on the num pad is for 3rd person view. (LOL that took awhile)
DO I REALLY have to make a choice between a flashlight and a handgun?
How do I put stuff on my tool belt?

And any tips for performance? Or a websight for such? I run everything very nicely on my older system.

Boot drive is a 128 gig SSD
Game drive is a 1 TB WD....
4 gigs or ram
and a GTX 9800

I get a 3 second "LAG" every 45 seconds or so. VERY frustrating.

few things that you NEED to do to make it playable.

in video settings-> advanced, make sure to turn of post processing. Also make sure that your 3D view is the same as your resolution.

I have also been told that changing your memory settings to default/normal will fix artifiacting.

I'm finding that my greatest enemy in this game is crawling, crawling has got to be the most dangerous thing in this game, followed by other players, then the zombies and then exposure.
 
pfft, crawling, waste of time!

I just run everywhere, and with a big train of zombies, I just run into a building and they're all off me, super easy, super risky.
 
Yeah, at first you crawl but once you figure out the mechanics of the zombies you realize its a waste of time. If you have a weapon you can just run into a building and easily dispatch them inside. If you don't have a weapon just find a building with more than one entrance and dump them all inside.

I read a rocket Q&A the other day and for the standalone the walk inside thing will be gone along with fixing their pathing. That should change the game a lot.

oh man, that will change it a LOT!

pathing is always awkward, they run like 2 blocks away from you, then teleport on you, haha.
 
i just got ballsy and wandered into the airstrip/military tents by balota with just a hatchet. walked out with a silenced mp5 😀


not too long after i found the shotgun with flashlight... which i probably should have taken since it would be so much easier to find ammo. but whatever... i'll take silent headshots lol
 
I pied pipered about 60 zombies off the Northern Airfield. Just kept running in circles until I had almost all the zeds up there following me, ditched under a fence and ran back. Only about five were able to follow, so I waited until I got into a quonset hut and popped em all right before getting sniped from the ATC tower that I was going to snipe guys from. Karma sucks balls sometimes.

went back to the military tents outside of balota. there was a guy with a gili suit and sniper rifle in one of the towers shooting at z outside the walls of the camp. he didn't see me sneak up on him. i waited for him to come down the ladder and filled him with as many shots as i could... he got off the ladder and shot me in the head. pretty sure he was a hacker though.
 
Ahh not too bad of an smg. Much prefer the Bizon.

Killed a hacker yesterday. He had an AS50 TWS. Yes a. 50 Cal thermal. I took it and server hopped. It was still in my coyote. WTF?

That gun is super weak. How many shots did you get in him?
 
it was a bunch... probably 5 or 6. but also he glitched coming down the ladder... or i dunno maybe it just always looks like this when you watch someone do it... but he just stood in one spot on the ladder doing the climb motion. then just disappeared. and he was in the grass.
 
The recent Arma II patch unintentionally nerfed a number of weapons in dayZ. Among them is the MP5. You likely would have needed to land 20 shots with that weapon to kill a player now. Even before the nerf though that gun didn't pack much punch. Imagine a markov with a larger magazine.

Absolutely. The solution is to play with friends, and use safety in numbers.

This game is fun for me if I have at least one person on teamspeak with me, but alone it's too terrifying to enjoy. When I play alone I am pretty much paralyzed by fear of getting killed without seeing the person who shot me.

There are annoying hackers who change the game. This is obviously not the intent of the game makers. However, what is unquestionably within their intent is to allow players to kill each other or work with each other in whatever way they like (or don't like). It seems to me that a lot of people cry about getting killed by other players, but once you learn the game, there is really no other threat than humans, so to cry about it is silly. You work a long time to collect stuff in this game, so it does sting when you lose several days worth of looting to someone you never even saw, but that also makes it more worthwhile when you find someone good to play with, or someone good to kill.

Sometimes people group up with the best intentions, but the group breaks down due to whatever and everybody just ends up killing each other. There is a lot of distrust between players in the game, and I think that is the best part of the simulation. Think about what it would really be like to survive and apocalypse; this game comes pretty close I think.

There is not a lot of profit in staying on the coast, so there are not many people I have encountered who go there just to kill new spawning players with nothing, so it's not grief like some games where you get killed repeatedly in a spawn area and never really get to play.

Thanks, that is what I really meant..I've no problem with the PVP aspect...I just want to have a chance...
 
so the other day i hopped on a bike for the first time... after out running the first pack of zombies i wondered... why has this never been in a zombie movie before? bikes are the perfect vehicle!

The map is so monstrously humongous that even when there are coast killers, your odds of running into one are fairly low. The map is 50,000 square km.
