i payed like £40 for HL2, and now i have to buy this!?

Of course. Why would you expect it to be free? I'll get it "free" cause I paid more for the Silver package when I bought HL2. Since when are expansions to games expected to be free? Just cause it's a download and not an off the shelf product it should be free???

i'm excited about this.

i know the graphics of Battlefield 2 are better, but i love the claustorphobic feel some of the city maps have.

I'm not really into playing games much but this Day of Defeat source game looks fabulous. I have never played any Steam games, thus I was wondering if I pay the $17.99 to Pre-order the game, will I require the original version on CD or does this download the full "source" version without requiring the original Day of Defeat?

You need a copy of Half Life 2 inorder to play DOD:Source.

It's not really an expansion. They just updated the DOD mod to the source engine. And the original DOD mod was free.

Because DoD came to fame as a "free" game.

I don't understand why you need a copy of Half Life 2 to play Day of Defeat Source? It's a completely different game. Nowhere on Steams download page does it say you need to purchase Half Life 2 in order to run it.

Looks like I was correct. DoD:S can be bought as a standalone game via Steam. BadKarma, you need to get your facts straight before giving answers.

Yeah, you can buy it as a standalone, but you still need Half Life 2 to run it. When you buy the stand alone, you get the Half Life 2 Engine but no game files...

alright I got my Hl2 package for my b-day, and I always thought it was bronze. But just then I click pre-load DOD:S now(thinking it wouldnt work, just to see what it would say)...and it starts pre-loading it! Do i have silver or something or when it actually becomes avaible to play on the 26th will it be like I need to purchase it?

Is there any way to see what package I have? All I could think of was to look in settings but I couldn't find anything in there.

you can always preload. Do you see a "pre-order" button? I have bronze and I preloaded, but I have a preorder button underneath it. I'm still deciding whether I should buy it or not hehe. I KNOW I would be playing it too much if I did hehe.

Check, if you have that button too then you've preloaded but can't play until you order it.

just because you're preloading doesn't mean it's going to work
I had bronze and was able to preload, but then you have to unlock it and that's when you have to pay

I think Karsten purchased the collector's edition in a local store. However, crizzar is saying that he thinks DOD:S wasn't included in that retail package, and only those who purchased the Silver and Gold package via Steam get DOD:S for "free".
