It sounds like when this is released there will be no real reason to have the first 2 DoW2s, unless you REALLY want to play those campaigns.
Considering their campaigns are something pretty special in terms of RTS storylines, they're well worth it.
Great news indeed, despite not having any DoW II related issues with GFWL myself.
Very glad they are still using Steam too.
BTW, this could have been added to the official DoW II Retribution thread 🙂
Wonder if the =I= purged the heretics at Relic/THQ that suggested they use GFWL.
I had no problems with GfWL. Not really a fan though since the game already requires Steam so I don't understand why they included it if Steam has its own system. MS probably paid Relic or THQ to include it 😛
I hope it's as easy to run co-op as it is in DoW2's GfWL. Just press HOME, click on your friend and "Invite to a game". No idea why people complain. Takes 5 seconds, literally.
Was I playing a different DOW2 then some of you?
I found the SP campaign to be forgettable. It literally comprised of two mission types: kill the boss enemy or defend your base from waves of enemies. The illusion of variety was in the tactics of the boss enemy and what squads you chose to go on the mission. There was only a handful of different map layouts. It got pretty boring after the 5-6th mission, but I ground through it all to see what kind of items I'd get and to see the end. I didn't touch it again after that. It's like they tried to merge elments of an ARPG (skilling up, item drops) into an RTS but forgot how to make a good RTS.
MP I can't comment on but I'd imagine it didn't suffer these problems.

Not sure how many if any of you are into the books, but they are giving away 5 free ebooks.
All the info is here, I made a post in the free forum http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2111325
I recommend this first book and the rest of the series quite a bit, Gaunt's Ghost is a great series of books.
Fantastic spot.
I personally own over 25 books from the Black Library (more if you split my omnibus editions into single books) and they are a deeply rewarding read.
It's not all about worship, for The Emperor and Space Marines winning with plot armour 100% of the time... there are some books written from other perspectives.
Explore the deep, dark realms of the Inquisiton through Eisenhorn and Ravenor. Feel what it is like to walk among Gods in Titanicus or if Choas is your posion, step into the maelstrom that is Storm of Iron.
<--- Warhammer 40,000 fluff and story fan.
I'm currently loving the Horus Heresy. Can't wait to get The First Heretic at the end of the month.
I really dig the all the books in the 40k universe even the ones that aren't all that good cause I just love fluff. I really love parts about titans and legio's though, not enough really out there for them besides Titanicus as you mentioned and Mechanium. At least from what I've read thus far.
The Grey Knights novel, Dark Adeptus, contains some Titan action.
I am purposely avoiding the Horus Heresy because it doesn't really interest me. Maybe when they get to the battles on Terra in front of the Palace I'll get interested because of the epic scale of that battle.
This thread has reminded me that I have misplaced my copy of the first novel in the Grey Knights series and that I really, really need to pick up Blood Pact to continue the Haunt's Ghosts series.
Finally, I hope everyone has heard of the direct-to-DVD release of Ultramarines, the animated Warhammer 40,000 movie centred on the Ultramarines that is due for release before the end of this year. Script written by Dan Abnett, it should be a good one.
Thanks for the tip on Dark Apetus, I'll probably be picking up the Grey Knight omnibus soon now 😀
The HH really is great. You get some damn good fights and you really get too see how Chaos started corrupting everything to turn them. It's funny too in that when you are reading the first book Horus Rising you are like Horus is awesome even though you know what he later does, paints him in a different light, instead of just being what the universe has painted him as before the HH books.
I'm looking forward to the movie too, can't go wrong with Abnett and well the Ultramarines are cool regardless of how people like to feel about them lol
