My favorite part was before and after the interview. You could tell it was going to get interesting because all through the show leading up to the interview he was taking shots at O'Riley, just in monolouge and stuff.

Then AFTER him Eric Bana came out and Letterman asked if he had a good holiday and Bana said "Yeah, a good holiday, and even a good CHRISTMAS.".....that was golden.

I wouldn't say Bill got owned perse, but he was on Davids turf and you could tell that threw Bill off a bit. In the end I like how they show respect for each other no matter what.

And though I'm not a liberal or a dem, it's so obvious that what dave said about Bill "Hardly being fair and balanced" was true.

Bill obviously is a "sided" man.

He is supposed to be a "sided" man. He gets paid for his opinions on his show. Same as Hannity & Colmes and the other opinion-based shows on Fox, CNN, MSNBC, etc.

You're confusing the opinion shows with the news shows.
 
I do NOT like Bill but Letterman did nothing to "own" Bill. Letterman basically said, "I don't know anything but my opinion is that you are full of it". "I have no proof, but idiots will agree with me"
 
funny to watch o'reilly try to paint himself as an objective, reasonable man. anyone who has followed the things that he's said knows that's simply not the case.
 
Hrm, but of an odd exchange. Bill didn't get owned, even though I was hoping to see it. I think the guy is an asshat, or at least the persona he projects is.

Did we even watch the same thing? Letterman makes a valid point, that Bill and the right likes to overexaggerate small issues to create controversy and fear. Just like Bush changing the 'alert levels' just before the elections... first raising them up to cause fear, then reducing them back to normal levels, they have the public think that there's a problem and imminent attack, and then lower it, and the public thinks that they must have done something to stop it. It's the same fear mongering with xmas. OMG here's a school that doesn't allow the words 'christmas', so you see, the liberals are trying to destroy all of our beloved traditions... lets not mention that xmas has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO with Christ... it was a pagan holiday adopted by Christians because they didn't like Christians celebrating something else.

I'm sure you people are the same that thought Bush was equal to Kerry during the debates.

Well, that's kinda the problem, even though O'Reilly & Letterman had opposing viewpoints, I agree with what both said.

But I really think O'Reilly was getting a little too heated in his arguements, while Letterman was trying to add humor in to keep the discussion more light-hearted. It's funny to watch John Stewart do the same thing on the Daily Show when the guest starts talking seriously about current events - he's very quick to derail the discussion.

As well as that O'Reilly is more intelligent than they are.. hence Letterman admitting hes not intelligent enough to debate with Bill.
Two masters degrees and one from Harvard.. the guy is going to dominate someone like Jon Stewart or Letterman. Hes an intellectually honed mind.
They know this.. which is why they admit it.

Jon Stewart is much, much smarter than O'Reilly. I know the Falafal king is your hero but come on, seriously. I don't call shouting down people who don't agree with you to be an intellectually honed way to debate and yes I do watch his show regularly.

I just watched the clip.

I cannot say that Letterman pwned O'Reilly. They came from two different viewpoints. Letterman was more for entertainment, while Bill was more factual debate. Add to the mix that Letterman was on his home turf with all his supporters reacting in his favor and it is easy to see why ppl might think Letterman was ahead.

I used to watch Bill, years ago, before he got so full of himself. He is a little too pompous for my tastes now... but there is no denying that he is incredibly smart and well educated.

 
Didn't see Bill get "owned", if anything Dave did what he does best (talk and joke) and challenge Bill. Bill responded with his point of view, Dave having nothing else to say attack Bill on a personal level ("60% of everything you say is BS") and Bill came out looking smarter.

Bill actually got more applause than Dave did in that segment (kinda sad since its Dave's home turf)

Very interesting ... I agree 100% that letterman had nothing.

The interview started with O'Reilly presenting a list of items that are helping to erode the Christmas traditions. Letterman wants to move on and then suggests that the few incidents that O'Reilly can provide details on are isolated.

Dude, he just handed you a list that you folded up and threw under your desk.

I think Bill isn't pretty bad at debates. Sean Hannity too.

I think the sharpest conservative on FN is that young guy from the National Review. He's the guy who presents conservative viewpoints grounded in facts and logic and not rhetoric.

As O'Reilly suggested to Letterman in response to his "60% BS remark" - Let's talk specifics.

Interestingly, Letterman indicated a certain opinion of BOR, but admitted to having not watched the show. If Letterman doesn't watch the (an entire) show, how would he really know what goes on?
