..your not the only one with selective indignation.

haha. the first honest comment from you, ever. kudos.

:D

Zinfamous ... IGBT posted a wealth of information regarding smoking and the damage that can be done! I am glad that your friend, being a professional opera singer doesn't really feel that smoking damages your vocal chords!

My Papa was friends with Pavarotti who used to smoke cigars, which you don't inhale! So, that would make a bit of difference! I do not think that it is a wise decision on their part! I think that some people have their vices and it doesn't seem to interfere with their craft. Luckily so!

Looking at Robert Plant, and others that partied hard .. the damage to their voice, let alone their appearance, and physical well being is phenomenal!

Smoke has always been contributed to premature aging! "No Thank You!"

GTFO of here. IGBT has a long history of unfounded rants about his "dopers and Eco-Kooks", and that comment was merely a reference to that.

Consider yourself lucky to be ignorant of these things...not that you are, as an RBM...but anyway.
Hell, you are probably an IGBT alt. I don't think I've ever seen him/it comment directly to another user without one of his standard miserable catchphrases. :hmm:

Also consider the extreme wear that singing in falsetto does to a voice. It's not as if these dudes worked in a perfectly controlled environment. That type of voice simply craps out early on with age. No mystery there.

Robert Plant belongs in life-sentence prison for stealing-for-self-enrichmetnt the creative intellectual properties of Negroe musicians of the US Mussissippi delta.

There is no controversy, this is FACT.
Robert Plant is a TRULY evil person.

absolute horseshit. And if that were even true, (considering you know, fair use), you should be complaining about Jimmy Page, not Robert Plant.

Plant was just a dude that could sing and bang a tambourine every once in a while. Jimmy Page was the heart of Zep.

I suspect at the time Roy did that performance he knew his heart condition was getting worse..he wanted to do one really good last performance with friends. "A Black And White Night" is how he wanted to be remembered. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Orbison_and_Friends:_A_Black_and_White_Night

Shirley is still going strong. They should have used her to do that last James Bond theme. Who ever that person was that did the last theme song was terrible. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shirley_Bassey

Hi IGBT ... First off .. Thank you for the wealth of information on the effects of smoking! It does so much damage in all aspects! Many of these rock artists are just destroying themselves between the smoking, and the drugs, as we all know! It's just sad to have all of that fame, glory, and notoriety, not to mention the wealth that goes along with it all, only to destroy themselves!

I think that Roy Orbison was a true icon also! I think that the Black and White Night was an amazing last performance for him! Nothing better then to be remembered with a night like this, amongst family and friends!

As far as the last Bond film, Skyfall, it was Adele who sang the theme song. I personally think that Adele has a beautiful voice, but I do agree with you! Shirley Bassey may have been the best choice for this song! She just has so much passion!

I don't know why they haven't had Shirley Bassey do another Bond song in this day and age, especially since she still sounds AMAZING! It seems like it would come full circle if they did! They would need to do it for the next movie, as she is in her 70's now! Wouldn't that be great!!

Shirley Bassey 'Diamonds are Forever, and Goldfinger' Spine tingling..WOW

If you saw Coverdale in his prime don't try to revisit him today. It is hideous.

If Robert Plant ever decided to go on a Led Zep tour I would do everything I could to see a show or two; even knowing he can no longer hit the high notes. Don't care. He can still perform. I love watching Celebration Day.
Mike shows up to tell it true.

Fanks.

Zinfamous ... I have no idea why you continue to treat me with such disdain considering that I am just giving my honest opinion about smoking, and what it can do a talented voice, anyone's voice, let alone health! However, it's celebs voices we are talking about! So, I will stick with that! I love Robert Plant, but I look at what he used to be, and how the physical effects of smoking have aged him tremendously! I am not certain that smoking is the number one cause of him losing his voice since he did have vocal nodules removed when he was younger, so, I would attribute that to be a major cause of it! He didn't take care of himself at all! I do agree with you that artists using high or low pitch tones, such as Opera singers, along with Rock singers, well, it's bound to take it's toll! Many of them develop vocal nodules that if they don't rest their voice, and take it seriously, it compounds, and eventually they will lose it! Steven Tyler as we all know hits those high pitch tones, and has had problems with vocal nodules! However, over the years he has taken care of his voice! He learned how to warm up his voice from a vocal coach! Plant never did this! What a shame!

..ALL musicians are influenced by other musicians. All Plant / Page did was return long forgotten music that was in public domain back to America. Interesting you don't mention all the music Jimmy Hendrix borrowed from the likes of Bob Dylan and other musicians. If you want something to fume about..be pizzed off about the beat box digital sampler and all the rip off sampling going on. Jame Brown and Led Zeppelin are heavily sampled by musical slouches that have no talent or musicianship. With the beat box... "noise" is fashioned and constructed around the "sample" that results in something today's pop culture thinks is music. The beat box has had a devastating effect on the studio musicians and has greatly diminished the quality and progress of music. Real music is made by real musicians..not beat box plagiarism.

well, for starters, you recently suggested that Skyfall is the best Bond film, so that should be enough for most people to treat you with disdain, if anyone is being honest here. :D

great song and Adele is awesome...but terrible Bond film. decent flick, sure, but terrible Bond film.

This is why thoughts of Silver Prime flood my mind when I consider the posts from this RBM, bumping this old-ass thread.

I wonder what are their thoughts on Predator v Terminator? :hmm:

I never said that Skyfall was my favorite Bond film .. it's not! I thought it was a good movie though! I also liked, Casino Royale! I think Daniel Craig is amazing as James Bond .. love him, next to Sean Connery of course ():) Die Another Day was good with Pierce Brosnan.

As I said prior, I think that Adele has a beautiful voice, but I would have loved Shirley Bassey singing another Bond song! Her voice is still amazing! When I think of Bond songs, she is number one!

IGBT is the one who posted about the idea of Shirley Bassey first, and I must say that I totally agree! Shirley Bassey should be singing the Bond songs! It's only fitting after singing several of the Bond songs!

Final thoughts .. Shaken not Stirred

Bwahahahahahaha!

No, really, Ahahahafuckinha!

DLR sounds great... GTFO.

iRONic ... David Lee Roth may not sound like he did in the 70's-80's, and he may not look like he did back then either .. that's just not realistic .. but he still sounds good .. he can still hit the occasional high pitch .. I've seen them several times over my lifetime, and I would see them again in a New York minute! Love Van Halen! (Sammy Hagar's voice is still terrific! Yup!! HA .. back atchya!:hmm:

This more or less.

More than that of course, The Stones were famous for it.

Beat box and Auto Tuning crap ticks me off these days, although a few can pull some things off.

And I doubt Plant cares too much at this point in his life, not looking like he's planning on touring in the near future.

Yeah, people have no idea how lawyer-free fair use music used to be. It wasn't until the 70's when bands started filling arenas did lawyers start seeing $$$$ and suing people for using other people's songs. It's was 100% the norm before that. The Rolling Stones and The Beatles should be locked up too if we're going to go that far.

We saw him a couple years ago. Very good show. I dig his moroccan-flavored material and he knows how to play the Zep stuff so it sounds great.

Saw Randy Bachman last year and he was great. He was never really my favorite but I was given tickets, and ended up enjoying the show.
