I think David Coverdale is a wannabe Robert Plant.

thats the reason i started this thread...Coverdale was never a wannabe Plant, Plant started all this negative publicity becasue Coverdales music was a little similiar to Zep music. David Coverdale clearly has the better voice of the two....i always thought the weakest link on the Zeps was Robert Plant.

Cosmickarma .. I guess the last word that I can ever say regarding all Robert Plant wannabe's including David Coverdale is that Robert Plant is known as an ICON to ALL generations! David Coverdale is NOT...

If you ask generations throughout the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 2000's .. Who is Robert Plant .. THEY ALL KNOW!!! I remember back several years ago being shocked to hear my middle son listening to Zep .. I surprised him and took him to see Robert Plant;) I was even more surprised when I told some of my younger co-workers in their 20's that I was going to see Robert Plant .. they asked me if they could come with us! ..and they did!! His voice is definitely not the quality of when he was younger, but that is to be expected! I would definitely go again! I remember standing outside after, and this kid that was a few years older then my son said to my son "Who did you come here with? My son said, "My Mom" .. He said, "Your Mom? Do you know how lucky you are? He said, Yah..lol...
It was a great concert ... Blast from the past!

That is the difference between a band, such as Whitesnake who were/are a good band, with a very talented front man, David Coverdale .. but ask most generations who they are .. and they'd say "WHO?"

That is the difference between a great band, and a LEGEND!!

If Whitesnake were touring right now .. hundreds to thousands would go to see their beloved band, and fabulous front man!! **I do think that David Coverdale is a great front man, with an excellent voice! Even going back to his Deep Purple days** Whitesnake will never reach any other status other then a great band!

The difference is between a great band, and a LEGEND!!

Robert Plant and Led Zeppelin are a LEGEND .. now, putting the same scenario to Led Zep ..

If Led Zeppelin were touring right now ... the WORLD would flock to see them, and ALL ages .. it would be a once in a lifetime iconic event! Not many bands achieve this kind of notoriety .. but Robert Plant, and Led Zeppelin have!

Plant has never been billed as technically awesome. If you use that metric, you're going to end up at some opera guy belting out Italian stories.
Bobby is, however, one of the few people in history that can claim genre-defining influence (most likely for the rest of the time humans will be on this rock).
Also, he is awesome and I will fight you over it.

Note* none of this should detract from Coverdale.

I loathe Plant's voice, so I will take the other guy even though I don't know what he sounds like.

David Coverdale, the man who killed Deep Purple. I would be happy to go the rest of my life without ever hearing Whitesnake again.

I would go with Coverdale. He is a bit more versatile that Robert Plant. He had some pretty impressive performances with Deep Purple and the earlier blues style Whitesnake before they went hair metal.

Robert Plant was in and sang for Led Zeppelin a band that gave us some of the most iconic rock songs ever.

David Coverdale was in Whitesnake... I don't really know any iconic songs from them.

Now David Coverdale may have the better voice, however, look at their bodies of work.

Because of that I'll go with Robert Plant, but I'll acknowledge Mr. Coverdale's vocal ability... It's just that David didn't participate in the creation of any iconic rock music that I know of.

yeah famous. but nothing I consider influential or "Iconic" that's rather nebulous I know....

to put it another way

I know of no songs by Whitesnake considered great songs. Many people consider at least one song from Led Zeppelin great. I'd argue there are more than one.

....

In the states Whitesnake did not really get popular until they went fully hair metal with their self titled album "Whitesnake" in 1987 (And to a lesser extent 1984's "Slide it In"). What many people don't know is that for many years before Whitesnake was a blues hard"ish" rock band and was really popular overseas, they sounded nothing like a hair metal band.

I do agree with you that there are no Whitesnake songs on the legendary level of so many Zeppling songs, the closest being "Is this Love", "Still of the Night" and "Here I go Again". However it can't be forgotten that Coverdale was a member of Deep Purple for their last 3 albums. The song "Burn" alone is insanely popular overseas, especially in Japan.

David Coverdale sucks. He ruined Deep Purple. Thankfully he went solo and Ian Gillan returned.

David Coverdale clearly has the better voice of the two....i always thought the weakest link on the Zeps was Robert Plant.

I had written a whole segment of my thoughts on this yesterday .. and spit nails when I somehow ended up deleting it .. I was just going to forget it .. but in the words of David Coverdale "here I go again" ..lol

Cosmickarma .. I believe somewhere on here that you also stated that Robert Plant is a David Coverdale wannabe .. this may not have been you.. but I'm pretty sure it was!

First of all, whoever said this needs to be "tuned" .. greatly!!!

In all fairness, as I have stated before, David Coverdale has a fabulous voice, but to compare him to Robert Plant, or to put down Robert Plant is ludicrous!! What Robert Plant achieved with Led Zeppelin was mind blowing! I wish the old videos of yesteryear were of the quality of today .. I would love to have seen what they could have done today! When John Bonham died, that was the end of Led Zeppelin! I pray that there is a reunion soon, and they use Jason Bonham, John's son, as their drummer as they did in England. (I met Jason Bonham by the way :)) He was drumming for Foreigner!

Anyway, back on topic!! David Coverdale may be a few years younger then Robert Plant but could never compare to Robert Plant, and does mimic Plant!! Right down to those curly locks!!! Even Robert Plant stated this during an interview that I watched some years back!

When asked about being some imitation by David Coverdale, Robert Plant didn't like it one bit, and stated so .. right down to his hair!!! Robert Plant, when asked more questions about it went on to say, he'd like to know why David Coverdale is imitating him also, and told the interviewer, "these would be good questions for David Coverdale to answer!"

Even though mimicry is the GREATEST form of flattery, Robert Plant isn't impressed by David Coverdale at all .. and why should he be? David Coverdale has gained notoriety by all of this! People have stood up and noticed this imitation of Plant worldwide! David Coverdale making money off of Robert Plants back when working with Jimmy Page! For Jimmy Page to have worked with him, Page had to have noticed what was going on! So, if I was Robert Plant, I'd be pissed too! Anyone would be!

So, if the GREAT Robert Plant notices it, and doesn't like it, and has been interviewed about his thoughts about Coverdale mimicking him ... and the WORLD notices it .. hell, I was writing an offer on my living room table when I heard David Coverdale's "Still of the Night" come on my tv .. I literally did a double take, and had to stop what I was doing! I thought, WHAT IS THIS GUY DOING??? IT WAS SO OBVIOUS!!! I know how I felt, it blew me away, so I can only imagine how Robert Plant felt! Somebody taking over your work, your movements, your style, your look, and making a fortune doing it!

.. That quote about Plant mimicking Coverdale on this forum .. well, that is just delusional!!!

I realize that David Coverdale MUST have talent to mimic Robert Plant, and Coverdale certainly does have that talent, an amazing voice, and performer! I love the song/video 'Still of the Night' .. but David Coverdale should have been secure enough in his skin to nurture his own individuality .. not hijack someone else's .. and an icon at that!

Take a look at these,

David Coverdale 1974 with Deep Purple ...sure doesn't look or sound like Robert Plant here .. no oo's or oh babes here, no mimicking, and NO blond curly locks! Doesn't look one iota like Robert Plant!

Zinfamous .. You may want to read the original thread once again! This is a Rock Thread, and I am answering a question that others have decided to answer also!

Since you obviously haven't any valuable input regarding Led Zeppelin, David Coverdale, or any rock bands, it sounds like you might be uneducated regarding who these bands are .. and since you have no intellectual input regarding this thread, it sounds like you might be the one trying to sell junk, and spam this thread!
