You can't be serious with that question. It's so hard to detect sarcasm on the internet

He is not an incredible person at all

Yeah, the whole block of ice trick was BS; he was surrounded by air within the ice, of which air is actually a good insulator. Doing such a trick in frigid water is actually more impressive.

Yup...that's an age old trick that eskimos do. except they called them igloos.

The thing is that certain monks actually do a trick in freezing water where they begin to raise their body temperature through meditation just enough so that they don't freeze to death.

I remember a special long ago where they took the monks into a freezing cave and put wet rags on their bare backs. After meditating a while, the whole cave became a steam room because they raised their body temps so high. As for Blaine, he is not better than Houdini by any means. Houdini was insane, he could dislocate both shoulders at one time.

So? It's called hyperextension (or "double-jointed" to some). I was born with it and can dislocate my shoulders, hyperextend my scapulae, fingers, etc...It's relatively common, not "insane." :p

As for Blaine... 2 minutes off his mark? Obviously he planned this. He wouldn't be THAT far off the 9 minute mark if he hadn't wanted to be - if that was the case, he wouldn't have said 9 minutes. He still must be breaking some sort of record...right?

Definitely bodes well for a sequel of sorts. If they could draw the audience on a failed attempt, they could probably do it again to actually break the record. He was an idtiot though, the aquarium BS and then trying to escape while holding your breath. Complete BS. It was like he was trying to rub it in that if he made 9min AND escaped from shackles it'd be like he was a god. He very well might have been using pure oxygen and thus was able to use the energy and last 7 minutes, not wasting energy he might have easily broken 9 minutes thus making people think he broke the record only for it to be unofficial because he might have used pure oxygen...

At the very end when he was talking to the people around him I though I heard conversation where he asks one of his assistants a question along the lines of how much his official time was and I distinctly remember hearing someone say "I think it was 7:50" obviously lying to him to make his failure less than it was. Missing the mark by nearly 2 minutes isn't going to cut for me. Stuart Scott was wrong.

That should not be an issue, David Blaine is already brain damaged to try something like this.

He is an illusionist!

Figure out the trick.

Don't call him crazy. He is fooling the world with his magic and nobody has figured it out.

I think he could have pulled off 9 minutes if not for staying in the tank for a week. Doing so just took too much of a toll on his body. Had he just trained outside of water and went for the record last night, he would have likely broke it it pretty easily. His hands and feet were friggin' nasty.

And 7 minutes is still highly impressive. As I'm sure a lot of people did last night while watching, I tried to hold my breath for as long as possible. I'm a non-smoker in pretty good health and only made it to 1:20.

I agree. Anyone who doesn't like him doesn't like magic. It's a trick. If you don't like David Blaine, it probably means you just don't like magic. If you think it's cheap, at least he's getting somwhat rich and of course famous. I admire that.

So with that said, I have to say he's a huge douche bag magician. This underwater thing is going to be fake. He's obviously going to make it 9 minutes if they are going to have a 2 hour special on it, and I'm sure he's going to do some dramatization too and start to panic right by the 9th minute, then come up at like 9:01.

Again ... it's all a trick and David Blaine is a huge douche.

He obviously WAS NOT GOING to make it. I do believe however, that if he had not been under water for the entire week leading up to the stunt, he could have completed it.

being a smoker actually helps you hold your breath longer becuase your body is already used to having less oxygen. Don't believe me, next time you go SCUBA, ake a smoker along, they will almost always have more air left in their tank after the dive.

It was an illusion, so he could have stayed under water for a month.

The almost dying deal is just part of his act, it keeps the marks watching.
