<< Hardware companies are supposed to >>

Hmmm, that must be written down in the Computer Hardware Company Handbook. Is there someplace on line I can find the rules for being a hardware company? I'm interested in knowing what else they're supposed to do.

I think you're all a bunch of dorks. Why start a thread with the sole purpose of flaming someone. maybe if you had originally made a constructive comment and someone started criticizing you, then its fun to watch people go back and forth. I'm surprised mods haven't locked this thread since it servers absolutely no purpose.

<< funny, I use the T-buffer ALL the time.. with about 95% of the games I play... >>

Ohhhhhhhh, that is soooooooooo much PR speak. 3dfx made a big PR move by "saying" that FSAA is one of their "T-Buffer" effects. So in effect, the can get away with using T-Buffer and FSAA interchangeably.

The fact remains that the bulk of the "T-Buffer" effects have yet to see the light of day in ANY game in the market (Motion blur, Depth of Field Blur, Soft Shadows, Soft refelections, etc.). It's more vapor than T&L (which actually has support).

And actually, if you go to 3dfx's website they don't even list FSAA as a "T-Buffer" effect as many have proclaimed it to be...so I don't get the fact that you say that you use T-Buffer in 95% of your games.

I guess it depends on your perspective. Really, the primary use of the T-buffer is AA.. being able to do all the effects is just a cool side effect.

Yes, but FSAA is not technically a T-Buffer effect according to 3dfx's own website :)

Well let us see.. does the T-buffer do? It renders multiple image samples to seperate buffers. Then you jitter those buffers and combine.. What do you have? An anti-aliased image...

Sure you do, so is 3dfx changing things now, is FSAA a part of the T-Buffer again? When you first introduced the VSA-100 it was T-Buffer that had FSAA, soft shadows and all the rest, then when no one seemed to care you somehow changed to VSA-100 has FSAA and T-Buffer, and now its together again.

Tell me, what other thing from the Tbuffer are you using? Developers dont want to impliment T-Buffer effects because they are 3dfx only, its sortof like property API, if you are not in the lead it will not be used.

And dave, one tough question for you that is going to be very hard, name one game that uses or will use some of the T-Buffer effects excluding FSAA?

Even if you state that FSAA is a T-Buffer effect (even though it isn't called one by 3dfx;)), the statement about using T-Buffer in 95% of games is very misleading considering that it is only 1/5 of the T-Buffer spec.

Dave didn't write it. Actually, I should retract my previous statement . Although I think he is very biased (if I worked for Chevy, I'm not going to talk about how a cobra r beats a camaro ss) he brings a lot of knowledge with him. I find most of his posts very informative. Labeling everyone in this thread as a dork was wrong. Here is my new post.

Hardware, you're a dork.

I have to aggree that starting this thread w/ the purpose of starting a flame war was idiodic. I am surprised that the mods (hint) didnt lock this as it has nothing to do w/ General Hardware discussion. If there was a catagory for "Flaming" then I could understand. Also, this is not the first time Hardware has started such threads... it is getting rather old.

About Dave, since we are on the subject... I dont know that I agree w/ all of his posts, but man I'd rather read his educated assumtions and opinions than read the crap that Hardware posts w/o even giving it a second thought. I rather like the fact that Dave is here and at leasts presents the other side of things... better than having a one sided conversation...

anyway thats just my opinion...

as long I hear << We already addressed the GF's T&L. It does nothing. It is a WASTE! It doesn't qualify as a feature >> from Dave I take him as a 3dfx fan boy!

Hardware, relax, these are only video cards. If you don't like 3dfx buy another brand. Thats it, nothing more to it. You should spend all your energy doing something constructive and maybe arguing about something like all the Bush/Gore debates in the off topic forum. At least those have some meaning and purpose, but to constantly bring up tired discussion about video cards, c'mon!

I sure wish I had nothing better to do all day.

Hardware,

Do you think 3dfx is sh!tty and makes sh!tty video cards?

If so, Why?
If not, Why?

Please explain in as much detail as you can, why you have your particular opinion.

Hardware, there are so many things wrong with everything you say. I don't know where to start.
Go away.

Huh, Hardware, I wouldn't worry about it 3dfx has been full of crap for a while now. Journalists at a press conference were told never mind the frame rates, feel the quality of the T-buffer. And all this after going ON and ON before about frame rates too. That's what gets to people! Still, I do like 3dfx stuff. I actually have it.

I could never understand why people bought 3dfx/Nvidia cards to use "at work". I mean, the only thing they are good for is games.

Matrox and ATI are justifiable solutions but the former 2 really bug me whenever I hear that they "need" a 3D accelerator to do their job.
