Dave Chappelle is officially an idiot.

Culturally: ?The bottom line was, white people own everything, and where can a black person go and be himself or say something that?s familiar to him and not have to explain or apologize??

Text.

Right, Whitie paid him $50 million to do what he was basically doing, ripping on all races/colors and laughing all the way to the bank. Riiight.... :disgust:

If he was white making fun of blacks the way he makes fun of whites, he'd be dead already.

How exactly does Chappelle make fun of whites? Are you really that insulted that he says white people will dance to an electric guitar instead of drums like black people?

I'm trying to figure out exactly WTF he is trying to say. I'm still confused. The only thing I can think of is that he's upset that white folks would give him all of this money to basically give him free reign to do whatever he wants, but then they turn around and question him or make him apologize for the doing what they gave him the freedom to do?

Like if I gave you $100 and told you to go buy whatever you want. You go and buy an Xbox game and come back to me. Then I bitch at you for buying the game even though I gave you the money and said do whatever.

I've never seen anyone (including Chappelle) say Comedy Central was questioning his work, censoring him, etc.

It sounds more like he couldn't handle the pressure, or the success, or the need to come up with enough material for a second season, but he's never really explained himself.

That's my whole point. Most white people aren't insulted, but if you were making fun of a black guy for the music he danced to, a riot from hell would break loose.

What if a white guy called a black guy a n*gger carelessly like he calls white people crackers?

Your comprehension skills are questionable at best. Are you just trying to start a flame war?

I believe he couldn't handle the pressure of keeping that much quality material coming at once. He probably got tired of being the center of attention too, having kids yell at him "I'm Rick James!" and all that. The machine just spit him out.

what i believe he meant by this, and keep in mind im only going off what ive heard/read in the past after the whole fallout after comedy central coughed up the $50 is that when production started they wanted to have more input/say in what he could and couldnt do in his show. or have the sketches better drawn out. pretty much, they wanted him to dumb his material down a lot more and also try and make it more appealing to an even broader audience. pretty much they tried offering their own creative input because they figured a good chunk of their money was backing him now and in order to feel comfortable and protect their investment they were going to have a little more say on the show. dave didnt really like this too much and even stated that it was the people around him making him not have as good as a time as the past seasons.

Dave Chappelle isn't even that bad. He says some off the wall stuff but he is nothing like some other comedians. I had the pleasure of hearing Paul Mooney's cd from 1992, RACE -- he said some of the funniest things on that disc. You probably remember him from the skit "Ask A Black Guy" on Chappelle.

Here is a quote from amazon.com from one of his DVDs:
About the Actor
Though Paul Mooney reached a new level of public familiarity in 2004 with his appearances on Comedy Central?s "Chappelle?s Show," the comedian has made millions laugh for over 30 years. As a television writer for the classics "Sanford & Son" and "Good Times," sketch comedy shows "Saturday Night Live" and "In Living Color," and a long-time Richard Pryor collaborator, Mooney has lived in the public ear, if not in the public eye, for a very long time. As head writer on "In Living Color," it was Mooney who created "Homey the Clown" "Dial a ******" and "The Brothers Brothers," never one to shy away from controversial racial themes.

Product Description
Paul Mooney is angry, fearless and very funny. Here he takes direct aim at racism and White America and hits his targets with dead-on accuracy ? and humor. Whether pondering chubby white women?s attraction to skinny brothers, or examining the "N" word, Paul Mooney is unafraid of the truth ? or the humor that is at the heart of controversy.

Mooney?s stand-up is legendary. Grammy®-nominated for his comedy album Race, he has spent years writing for other comedians as well. He started out as a writer for Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx and Eddy Murphy and was the head writer for In Living Color, where he created "Homie, The Clown." Recently he?d been a regular on the critically acclaimed Chappelle Show, most notably as the character "Negrodamus"

I think whites should stop complaining so much. Yes there is a huge double standard and non-blacks cannot say the stuff blacks say. My black friends say some stuff all the time and if I say it, I would get weird looks. That fact is totally true.

However, consider that their culture is different than everyone elses. The way they were brought up, their enviroment all contributes to this. Don't forget it was only a few decades ago when a black person didn't even have the same rights as a white person. There is a lot of animosity still.

As for Dave Chappelle, I don't even watch that show. Saw it a few times, did not find it funny. So I can't comment on that.

I saw him on Inside the Actor's Studio where he explained his africa trip and showbusiness angst at great length. It made sense to me at every turn. I think that quote has a lot to do with his family telling him that they didn't like how he used the N word, among other things.
