She's a freakin' idiot. I'm tired of any Hollywood celebrities that think they can live higher than everyone else in the US - like they themselves are the only gift to humanity.

During the interview, Jolie is just spitting out randomized standard garbage about the starving kids of the world. "They are smart. They can be taught too." OMG.. Holy fvcking sh!t!! What a revelation!!! The poverty-stricken kids of the world CAN be taught too.. just like us white Americans.. OMG Who knew that? Thank God Angelina Jolie told me..

The only reason the kids of the world are in poverty around the world is because their idiot parents can't organize into a functional society. But, let's not focus on the lack of ability for their societies to function.. Let's just think about the children!!!

This interview is a FLUFF piece. FLUFF!!! I wonder if the parent company of Dateline is somehow invested in promoting everything Jolie for her next movie..

There's REAL SMART people working on the problems of the world. We NEVER get to see them because Jolie and celebrities like her steal the spotlight.

OMG, man, what are you doing to help out world problems? It seems you just create some, hater. I myself respect the fact that she wants to do her part. It isn't her fault that she is famous and still wants to do something. It is because she is famous she can do so much more. People like you need to get a clue. It is also called media. I am betting you there was a lot more to that interview, but only the apparent FLUFF stuff was put in because that is what would make people watch the show.

All you guys who agreed with this are hilarious. If you were in the Peace Corps, or working for the Red Cross, or Compassion Int'l, ... then maybe I would shut up, but most of you are just haters who in reality are just jealous of people of success who are doing so much good in the world and you downplay their accomplishments to make yourself feel better. In other words, most of you are people who lack self worth and decide to use the internet as an outlet to trash everyone else. Screw you.

And, yes, there are people out there in the world that make huge differences, even more than Angelina Jolie, but I am betting you, that half of you can't name even a few, other than the famous ones like Ghandi or Mother Theresa. How about Paul Brand? Or Chuck Colson?... ever heard of those guys. I can name even more. Or are you going to look them up on wikipedia, and claim you knew a whole bunch of people before you started trashing someone who is trying to do something of significance.

Again, if you are posting out of some shanty in Africa, helping out the poor, then I apoligize, otherwise, stop hating. I do my part by using my abilities (programming...) to help out charity organizations... I do other things, and I donate to certain groups as well, so don't even try to turn it around.

Look, I've gone to third-world countries and tried to help out....you know WTF I realized......I was wasting my and their time. Oh it made me feel very good about myself for a while.....there I was helping out these orphans. But what happened when I went home? They'd have been better off, in the long run, if I'd just saved the money I spent travelling there and back and gave it to them for materials....materials which would get used up and leave them right the hell where they were to start with.

They don't need me....they don't need you...and they certainly don't need smug-ass Geroge Freaking Clooney or Angelina Jolie looking down their rich noses at them. They need a political infrastructure around them that gives them opportunities to learn if they want to and work if they want to and not have to constantly fear murder or rape or theft. But that's nation building and that's baaaaad and we Americans should mind our own damn business, right? Fine.

Kudos to the doctors or engineers who choose to move to these places and live there and offer their appreciable skills where they are missing. But in no time they'll be just another local doctor clamoring for more money and more medicine and supplies and never getting enough.

It's the old saying that you can give a man a fish and feed him for a day or teach him how to fish and feed him for a lifetime. These countries need security and they need corruption put down and they need a chance for an education. When there is a call for aid in doing this, I'll be first in line, but if you're looking for someone to stand next to you and spit at the forest fire, then no thanks.

So that's what pisses people off about celebrities. They're stupid for thinking people don't already know this stuff......and mostly they aren't making a shred of difference except for their own egos which get all puffed up when they think about all the people listening to what they say and thinking what good people they are......I guess it makes them feel better when they wake up in their 20 million dollar mansions and have that twinge of guilt sitting on their solid gold toilet seat as their private cook prepares them a fois grais omelette for breakfast.

nothing wrong with helping one person, one family at a time...

but yes, ultimately, there needs to be a paradigm shift, and the infrastructure/institutions that are causing people to remain in poverty need to be tackled (e.g. corrupt governments, crime, as you pointed out)

look at it this way...would you have come to the realization about the importance of a viable political infrastructure, had you not taken the step to help out first hand? i don't think your going over there was a waste.

Exactly.... during those ppl's time of need you gave them something more important than just material things.... you gave them HOPE! Hope is the catalyst to making dreams come true... More ppl like you are what the world needs...

Great rebuttal... lets see how brxndxn and his followers will reply ;)
I gotta say, she's doing more than most ppl here would prolly do if they were in her shoes. Hell, there are ppl on this board who do have money, but spend it on AMG Mercedes, M5 Beemers, super-uber PC's and ridiculously expensive (several thousands, $10,000+) home theaters.

I put in over 3,600 hours of national community service, turned a crackhouse into an after-school program, worked as a summer-camp counselor 2X's, helped gang members change their lives and worked as a case worker in 2 middle schools in 2nd ward in Houston where drugs are rampant, gang violence is old news, teen pregnancy is an elective, and seen a kid get stabbed right in front of me.. all this and even I can say  Angelina Jolie

Until someone here can say they've made some type of contribution that has literally changed the lives of ppl in a positive way than you really can't say crap.

:D Amen to that brotha. Where in Houston do you do that stuff?

I wanted to do HfH (Habitat for Humanity) with a group of mine, but when I went to plan it, we found that we had to raise $10 Gs, so it was a no go. It would be cool to find out about organizations that need manpower to do stuff. Right now, I have less time to volunteer, but for a short period I could get something together. :)

**EDIT**
BTW, do you do social work or something?

I used to do social work for 10 years until I made a career change and decided to enter into business in order to support my family and take care of my mother. However I one day plan on going back as nothing compares like seeing the smiles on kids faces when you help them accomplish something.

I volunteered in Americorps for 2 years... great program BTW, its very similar to the Peace Corps except its kept on American soil to help out American communities/parks/ppl

Youth Advocates in Houston can always use a helping hand if you're in the Houston area and want to help out ;) And Hope in Hollywood is another one where anyone in the L.A. area can help out.. I help start up that organization :D
