Am I missing something.

The 13 year old AND the mother were both hit by the car.

So, either the mother was in the street attempting to move her daughter, or she wasn't and the car was all over the place.

Perhaps another source of information besides the original could shed a little more light on the goings-on?

Oh, hey look.

http://www.clickorlando.com/news/apopka-girl-13-sitting-in-road-struck-killed/31567346

And this leaped right off the page: "According to Apopka police, the driver, 21-year-old Mackenzi Miller of Apopka, had the odor of alcohol on her breath and her eyes were glassy and bloodshot. Police said an opened Mike's Hard Lemonade was found in the center console of the car."

so does..

Police explained, however, those observations alone are not probable cause for arrest. Sgt. Ed Chittenden of the Apopka Police Department said those observations may indicate a person has consumed alcohol, but not that he or she is impaired.

also she has not been charged (yet )

Miller has not been arrested and has not been charged with a crime.

oh and look.

A 13-year-old Apopka girl who sat in the middle of a road after an argument over who would sit in the front seat of a car was struck and killed, according to police.

goes back to the original point...Who the fuck sits in the middle of a road to have a fucking temper tantrum?

but good for momma.

Pedroza, 36, attempted to get Trinity out of the roadway, but a car struck them.

But again the silly kid would still be alive even if the driver is found to be impaired if she just didn't sit in the middle of the road to have a temper tantrum.

stories like those amaze me. People getting arrest for letting kids play outside? is this the world people want?

fuck i guess when you have saying fucking retarded shit like "She is 13 years old man. They do not think like adults" i guess it is.

I agree the level of ridiculous protectionism has gotten out of hand, at the same time, pointing out that 13 year old children do not think like adults is a valid point.

We know as a society that children lack the knowledge, experience, and emotional control to think and act in a rational adult manner; this is exactly why children have abridged rights, and their guardians are given a high level of control over their lives - they are not capable of properly caring for themselves.

As for this particular case, I would suggest this should be looked at in the context of recent events. In recent months there has been a lot of news coverage about young people protesting perceived injustice by ... sitting in the middle of roads. Given that my children (who are a few years younger) asked about the protests, I'm confident this girl was aware of them. Further, depending on leanings of those around her, she may have gotten a sense that their actions were good, even heroic.

Now an adult would be capable of seeing the wide gap between a large group of people blocking a road, and a single hard to see girl - but at 13 that distinction is easily missed against a background of overactive emotions and limited experience (for instance, 0 experience driving)

Obviously I, nor anyone else here, knows what this girl was thinking, but I am just as inclined to see her in the light of a misguided child emulating behavior of others as to see a brat having a tantrum.

Also, I find it really hard to believe the driver has not been arrested - everywhere I have lived merely having an open container of alcohol within reach of the driver of a vehicle has been sufficient to arrest.

Parents are wimps these days. I grew up with the belt and buckle.

My Dad would of dragged my ass out of there quick.

Beating a 13 year old? Serious? The last time my mom tried to spank me was age 14, at that time I was 5 inches taller than her and 40 lbs heavier. I told her that was not going to happen. It did not happen. She was afraid to tell my dad because at that point I was probably stronger than him as well. It was strictly a might makes right situation. If you are more powerful than the other person, you can assualt them, if you are not, not so much.

Let me just say if my daughter ever tells me "it's not going to happen", i'd smile, wait for her to leave the house, and pack 1 box full of her (mine) shit on the sidewalk with the words "it did happen...biyatch!!!"

Let me present two versions of this.

"Billy, it's dangerous. Please get out of the road Billy."

compared to

"Tyrone, if you don't get yo ass out that road, i'm gonna tear your ass up!!!"

which one would you most likely respond to? :p

Interesting, thoughtful post.

I DEMAND THAT YOU POST MORE OFTEN!

Um, sorry. Got carried away for a moment.

lol You, sir, are my new hero. Well, you and Belegost.

A parent who is bested by a thirteen year old is a miserable failure as a parent. Very, very few thirteen year olds have eliminated all the stupid.

As far as myself, I can't imagine my children (or grandchildren) doing this either, because they are disciplined. And I would never have told either of my parents I was not submitting to a beating; it's a matter of respect, not a matter of might makes right. Luckily I never had to as discipline was established early on.

Respect?!?! Spanking is a physical assualt man! Try that on another adult, you will be charged with FELONY assault. There is not a single documented link between physical discipline and better adusted children.

In fact, this study found that the REVERSE was true for white kids! The REVERSE! You are teaching your kids that beating people is acceptable way to make them do what you want. The results speak for themself.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2772061/

Our results support the conclusion that the experience of physical discipline in the first five years of life and during early adolescence is associated with higher levels of externalizing behavior problems in grade 11 for European American adolescents, but with lower levels of behavior problems for African American adolescents. These results were consistent for boys and girls; held after controlling for parents' marital status, socioeconomic status, and child temperament; and could not be explained away by interactions of physical discipline with socioeconomic status or neighborhood safety. These findings replicate and extend those of Deater-Deckard et al. (1996).

Hey, not my fault if white boys are slow learners. ;)

While I understand and respect what you posted, parents have reached a point where they are afraid to touch their children.

Mother grabs child, bystander calls police, mother is arrested for assault. But hey, at least the child would be alive.

Then again, how many children die from drugs and other bad behavior because the parents did not discipline the child? I wonder if the child that was killed ever had her ass tore up with a leather belt?

I feel the parents are not to blame but rather a political correct society that demonizes discipline.

nope, not society. parents.

this is all on the parents.

Why you be throwing US under the bus? I tend to blame the kids myself. I know I have a done a damn near perfect job raising my children. If they fuck up now despite all the great parenting I have delivered, its on them.
