So, does
that guy that is brought in on the Bird in the Giants area go away and never show up again if he kills you?

I restarted like 5 times before I figured out who the entire game felt super clunky.

Your adaptability stat is basically your response time IMO. I started as an explorer with 12 and you are so much more responsive in parries and even your move speed. I thought dex was supposed to increase that? In any case, I am doing a STR build now instead with him.

I don't think he shows up there again, AFAIK, but he does show up later.

Anyone doing any interesting builds? I am trying to go pure strength with probably around 20 adaptability. Pure melee though, I only have 5 int and faith IIRC.

Not very interesting, but I've been trying to go tanky.

31 str,
29 vit (I still can't carry crap. Where is my havels and FoP ring?)
20 dex

I'm debating putting points into end, or adaptability (my character started with 9), or vigor (my character started with 12), or just pumping str up to 50.

The fast roll with 15 adaptability is amazing! Sadly, I run with just a helmet on, no other armor. At least, until I hit around SL120 and have some enough weight to get some decent poise.

I have been using boss souls (only fought two so far), as I won't be making any of the weapons this playthrough. I am hoping I can find a good str weapon I don't need a lot of dex for. Sadly, I am using the Mace and it is okay, but I'd much prefer something like a BKH from Dark Souls.

Also, there are some amazing improvements in this game. Weight equipped showing as a percent, the menu itself not being as cluncky, being able to use multiple items of the same time at once! I haven't been invaded yet, but I spent most of my time at half health (which I believe turns off MP, as I never see any signs).

Nope. I think you aren't "hallow" until after a few deaths. Perhaps 75% life or something? I became human, saw summon signs, died to some wanker a bird dropped off and returned to the area still with summon signs. However, when I was at 50%, there were no signs to be found.

I think there might be a threshold where you aren't considered a hallow after one death like in Dark Souls (this might have to do with how the availability of human effigies being lower than the availability of humanity in DS).

I have like 20 effigies now and I know I wouldn't have that much humanity in Dark Souls.

That is strange. Upon beating DS, if you never use any, you end up with a lot. Quite a few bosses give them, you find them, and you obtain it killing mobs in areas with the bosses still alive. And invading gives humanity.

Any good drops?

Nothing I can think of that is any good. There are a few I am debating if I should kill or not though.
the one holding what looks to be a Moonlight greatsword!
I did kill one that I wasn't sure if he was an NPC or not
In the Forest of the Giants, the guy just sitting there who won't talk to you. He dropped a Hielde greatsword IIRC

He isn't an NPC. There's a couple more like this in other levels. I've yet to encounter an actual NPC that doesn't at least acknowledge you with a 'go away' line.

There has to be a way to interact with him. We just don't know how to yet. =)

So, I've beaten the game and apparently missed a few bosses. Started a new character and am going to try and to get done what I can. People keep complaining online about Soul Memory, and they have absolutely no idea what it does.... typical. I've been doing a lot of helping kill bosses, and it is amazing. Sadly, whenever I summon, I always get the incompetent morons who die before we get to the boss...

NPCs also aren't lock-on able (unless you aggro them). I also haven't found any NPC that won't talk to you - at the very least a "...?" response.

These guys also don't attack you. Perhaps they do something in NG+. I will have to find out. I've killed quite a few NPCs so far and haven't gotten anything too interesting.

I found this video yesterday and IMO It's the most awesome unboxing video made for the CE of DS 2 by true Dark Souls Servants. Note that it was made in a forest at midnight with just an LED light and a bonfire on the background.

Man I want to buy this game so bad right now but I'm trying to resist the urge for a while until it drops a bit. With my backlog of games I just can't justify buying it right now when I know I'll be able to get it much cheaper even in a month or so.

The online community IS thriving right now. It could be a bit less lively later :D

I don't know. Dark Souls had a pretty decent community. I could almost always find PVP on the Xbox and pretty reliably on the PC.

They allow you to not filter your search by region so getting the Japanese and European players will increase your potential. They might be a bit lower ping, but that isn't terrible.

I actually had someone use voice chat yesterday! Even if it was only to yell when he fell off a ledge, lol.

Sadly, I am finding the best STR build weapon to be the club that you can buy at the start of the game... That is incredibly annoying and uninteresting IMO. Perhaps, I'll find a pick axe (I used a + 5 lightning pick axe as my main pvp weapon in Dark Souls) and it will be better. It is incredibly annoying the large weapons that require a ton of strength either have abysmal strength scaling or require a ton of dex as well... What exactly is dexterous about swinging a giant sword?

I'll try to hold out a week. Then again I tried to do that when Dark Souls came out and I broke down and stopped and bought it on my way home from work one day. Now I have little ones who make it harder to play anyway so my ability to resist should be up a bit.

I'm trying to play dark souls on pc and I'm having a hard time. I've set up the dsfix, my ps4 controller works without issues. Is there anyway to save sooner than checkpoints? I like the game's style and combat seems a bit clunky but it's because it requires strategy. Which is good because not all games do this now.

Only thing I don't like is running all the way through again if I die at a certain place. Are there any saving mods?

That kind of defeats the purpose and saps away any challenge, but I'm sure you can hack your save game to give you unlimited souls if you want.
