You are asking if a movie so bad it shouldn't have come out will knock out one of the best movies released this year?

I think too many people misunderstood the question... had Mummy 3 made a mere 1.4 million more it would have become the new #1 movie (for the weekend), pushing TDK into 2nd place.

I highly doubt TDK will de-throne Titanic :( Ughhhhh

it might if it was kept in theaters for 9 months with no other major competition...however we'll have it on DVD and BluRay before then...

Even the new "Mummy" couldn't stop "The Dark Knight" from winning the box office

Batman can't be stopped

LOS ANGELES - Even an army of the undead could not dislodge Batman from his box-office perch.

"The Dark Knight" has soared to a $394.9 million haul in just 17 days, according to studio estimates Sunday. The Warner Bros. release should sail past the $400 million mark by Monday or Tuesday, said Dan Fellman, head of distribution for Warner.

That would be on the film's 18th or 19th day of release, another record for "The Dark Knight," which had an all-time high opening weekend of $158.4 million. The previous $400 million record-holder was "Shrek 2," which hit that mark in 43 days.

"It's a film that is just rewriting the record books every day and redefining our notions of what a blockbuster can be," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Media By Numbers.

"The Dark Knight" will top $500 million, predicted Fellman, who would not speculate on whether it could approach the all-time domestic revenue record of "Titanic" at $600.8 million.

Even if it edged past that mark, "The Dark Knight" would lag behind "Titanic" in terms of actual tickets sold. Admission prices are up more than 50 percent since "Titanic" came out in 1997, according to Media By Numbers. "The Dark Knight" would have to take in about $900 million to match the number of tickets that "Titanic" sold.

=========================================
That's because ticket prices are double from 1997.

I cant beleive The Mummy did 42.5m in the opening weekend. How anyone can take Brendan Fraser as a serious actor is beyond me

Believe it or not, Fraser is one of Universal's best breadwinners. The Mummy and The Mummy Returns each brought in over $400m worldwide in the box office.

Mummy 3 opened almost as well as the first Mummy, and it's getting solid numbers worldwide because of Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh; it should settle somewhere around $300m-$400m worldwide.

Fraser and Maria Bello both signed contracts for up to 3 more 'Mummy' sequels.

Oh noes!! Please, make it stop!!!

Ok I have never actually seen any of "The Mummy" movies but I HAVE seen Fraser in movies before and I refuse to watch ANYTHING he is a part of. Guy makes me want to throw something at the screen everytime I see him.

It was just a relentless barrage of action scenes. It didn't even have the original woman. They just winked her off with a throwaway line at a book reading! And yetis?

Are you kidding me? Batman Begins was one of the best Batman movies of all time, and probably one of the better action movies as well. That's a strong precedent, and The Dark Knight was just enjoying that success.

The Mummy was an ok movie, and the second was barely ok. I saw this latest Mummy over the weekend, and it didn't deserve the 9% it has on RT now. It was one of the worst damn movies I've ever seen. Just horrible.

Fraser is not bad, have you seen Bedazzled? (Maybe it was because of Liz Hurley...) I personally thought the Mummy series were decently fun enough, you guys are too critical.

You're an idiot. No one that I know, myself included, went to go see TDK because of Heath Ledger's death. People went because they liked the previous Batman movies and because Heath Ledger put on an amazing show.

Someone else was in Bedazzled besides Elizabeth Hurley? I didn't notice...

He's an average actor maybe in the same league as... "The Rock"

The Mummy made money because it was an action packed movie with pretty good special effects and a halfway decent cast.
