There's a dead mouse near the furnace in my basement, and I'm not sure what to do about it. I'm squeamish about stuff like this, and so is my girlfriend. Maybe I can grab a shovel, scoop up the dead bastard and throw him outside.......... I'd almost rather leave him there than have to deal with getting rid of his body, but I doubt my girlfriend would put up with that:) I didn't even know we had mice until this. How would you go about with getting rid of it if you were in my shoes?

Now I'm starting to worry that my home has a big mouse problem. Isn't it believed that for every mouse you find, there are 6 more lurking around that you don't see??

meh, our 102 year old house has mice too. they don't bother us and we don't bother them...not really a point in wasting our time since they're going to be back anyway.

You know those sticky traps?? Get a couple of them and put them in your basement. I would say generally when there's 1 mouse there's a few, so this may do the trick.

BE WARNED... these traps do not kill the mice, so if you DO trap any, they will be live and you will need to dispose of them somehow. If you'd rather go with old fashioned snap traps, at least they'll be dead when you find them. Above all, do not use poison unless it's the ones which claim to kill the mouse before they go 5 feet from the trap, or you'll have dead rodents underneath things and it'll start to smell.

I'm the same way, I want nothing to do with any sort of rodent, dead or alive.

I've got 2 or 3 in my attic. They've been dead so long they're nothing but skeletons. It's kinda cool, in a sick kinda way.

Here's how to get rid of it: wear a plastic bag like a glove. Grasp the carcass with your hand, using the bag as a "yuck barrier." Pull the bag down off your wrist and turn it inside out (right side out?) and dispose of in trash.

If it's already dead, you can use a shop-vac to vacu-suck it up. Just make sure you take out the filter first. (serious)

I refuse to pick it up even with a "yuck barrier" in place! I'm probably going to go with the sweeping into a dustpan method, or shoveling him up and disposing of his carcass in the far corner of the yard.:)

LOL... This reminds me of ..

Well, see.. My girlfriends mom.. had mice living in her house plants. They were digging out the dirt, and making homes inside the pots. There were piles of dirt all around all of the pots, lol.. You'd hear them at night, scratching around... her, and all of the other kids are like deathly afraid of them, and would go running and screaming into the other room whenever they heard anything. We'd just be laying there going.. ugh.. turn the lights back off and let us go back to "sleeping". :D lol..

We eventually just took the pots outside, mice and all. Dumped them out. Some had babies in them. It was sad.

She doesen't have anymore mice though. lol

This is an ugly brown one.:) Probably a field mouse.......... I'm still grossed out thinking there might be more lurking around. I wonder why he happened to die right out in the open in my furnace room?

RambleOn,

You'd fit right in at the office of one of my clients. A couple of weeks ago I was over there working on a network problem, and they're all standing around the front desk googly and whacked out. This office is all women - well, there is one guy, but his screensaver is men in bikini swim trunks, if you get my drift.

Turns out there's a huge dead rat out on their front lawn, and I mean HUGE. This thing was the size of a poodle. "PLEASE, Russ, can you get rid of it for us?" You should have seen the look on their faces when I walked outside, picked it up, carried it over and tossed it in the dumpster. One almost threw up.:)
