Less than 4 ounces is a misdemeanor. As a libertarian I still find it far from ideal, but hardly draconian.

Thats a pretty harsh penalty for a gram. Did he get a lawyer? I only got 20 hrs community service. When I had my car searched in NYC they found a z and pretty much ignored it. I think they were looking for weapons and harder drugs.

Not in Canada. In High School, you'll see kids measure it by the gram/0.5. $10/$5 respectively. The reason for this is a quick session before classes/during lunch.
