My parents in a nice neighborhood didn't get an alarm until after their burglary. It always takes an incident doesn't it? Don't be a statistic.

Alarms don't stop everyone but it's easy to skip your house for another. Even if they can cut your phone line to central station, they'd draw some attention with the horn blaring. A van in the driveway is kind of a giveaway. Next house.

It's very common for thieves to sit down and have something to eat in a break-in. It gives them a sense of 'ownership'. I was told that by the State Police that responded to our last break-in. The thieves had opened some tuna and had themselves tuna sandwiches.

They say you'll discover things missing sometimes over the course of years. Things you rarely use don't register until you need them. I don't do a lot of car repair work anymore. I discovered missing tools 4 years after.

The insurance rep got real huffy with us on the last one. He declared about two weeks after the break-in that the time period for reporting stolen items had ended. Anything discovered after then would not be eligible for reimbursement. I switched companies at our next renewal. Probably what they wanted anyway. :D It was a pisser because counting the front door that was damaged enough to need replacement, the total came to about $2800. Chump change on a break-in.

I asked if they had anyone they recommended for insurance repairs. (The front door) The guy got all agitated and uptight. I actually had to explain to him that insurance companies often have firms they work with for repairs. I don't know if this guy was new or what. They sent out a drunk that could barely stand. He wanted to replace the front door and the two sidelights. There was no damage to the sidelights. I called the door company where the original door was purchased and they had one left. All dusty out back in the warehouse. Sold it to me for $180 IIRC. I had a local guy do the work and the total bill came to like $320. The drunk wanted $1200. No thank you from the insurance company, just a lot of grief.

Westfield Insurance out of Ohio. Fuck them.

That really sucks. Hopefully you get everything replaced.

Would ADT or some home monitoring service have prevented this? If anything, you should buy the stickers off ebay just as a deterrent. Much easier target for thief to move to a non-protected place (just like a car with the club).

My wife had been bugging me to get a security system. She works from home and has a 357 in arms reach, yet she wants a security system.

It's always better to keep them out of the house IMO. Once they're in, anything can happen. I realize of course that a security system is no guarantee of anything.

These guys took the food with them...if they did cook them in the place (they did take the toaster oven) they cleaned up well after themselves.

I have no idea, it's supposedly just a fullsized pickup and the cops think it's all in one trip (they insist these guys are from out of town for some reason)....

My neighbor had a 61" RPTV taken along with furniture and dishes even...no way it was one trip...but the cops think it was.

It's a disaster though.

No that thread never stated I only lost that small list I had posted, I had only posted the retarded stuff they took.

You know this and simply want to troll. Go back to the other forums you claim are so much better and see who can win the circle jerk once and for all.

I know the feeling very well.

Our garage was burglarized bacn in 98 IIRC. They took ALL my hand tools, (I've turned wrenches all my life, so they got a LOT of tools) all my power tools, all my fishing tackle-fresh and salt including my custom-made saltwater rods, misc. auto stereo stuff and much more.

When I had finally inventoried everything that was missing, the totals were close to $15,000. Even now, I'll go looking in one of my tool boxes for something that I KNOW I have...I've had for 25 years...and it's not there. :| For the next year or so, I'd reach for something...and find yet another tool that was missing and I'd overlooked it when I made out the list of stolen goods.

It sucks...

Thieves deserve the death penalty.

wrong thread for a pissing match dude. I am not a troll either, just because I disagree with things (like the thread about returning an item from one vendor to another or is it ok to take everything out of an unlocked vending machine) doesn't make me a troll.
